A published transcript of the\nLarne and Kilwaughter congregational accounts probably identifies him as\n`William Glasgow Major` when the mortcloth was lodged with him in 1734, and\nrecords William handling mortcloth money in 1739/40, 1741 and 1743. Registry\nmemorial 62131 independently places William as an adjoining Larne occupier in\nMarch 1736. These adult occurrences cannot belong to William `Glasgow-3962`,\nborn in 1730.\n\nThe reported birth about 1708 and death about 1783 remain estimates. The exact\nSt Cedma's inscription has not been recovered, and the derivative reconstruction\nreports conflicting tombstone-derived birth years of 1699 and 1708. The 1783\nprobate-index entry is in the **Diocese of Connor**, not Belfast, and cannot be\nassigned uniquely because the William born in 1730 was also an adult Larne man.\n\nThis Larne man should not be equated with the William at Killycurry in the 1766\nDerryloran return or the William of Killycoragh in the 1770 probate index. No\nrecord moves William-1505 from County Antrim to those County Tyrone localities.\n\nRegistry memorial 62131 independently places William Glasgow as an adjoining\noccupier at Larne by March 1736. PRONI's catalogue now confirms a 10 March 1736\nlease to William and Hugh Glasgow jointly (`D300/2/1/100/3A-B`) and a related\nlease with 1751 and 1767 new-life endorsements (`D2977/3A/4/81/72A`). The same\n1736 title was renewed to Elizabeth Glasgow, widow of Larne, in 1824. This is a\nstrong property association and a possible descendant chain, but none of the\ncatalogue abstracts states that William and Hugh were brothers or identifies\nElizabeth's husband.\n\nWilliam's current descendants remain useful working hypotheses, not a proved\nline. James `Glasgow-1509`, born or recorded about 1737 and later associated\nwith the Larne rope trade, is a chronologically plausible uncertain son. A\nderivative register chronology instead calls the 1737 James a son of Hugh, so\nthe original `MIC/1B/6` entry is decisive. James `Glasgow-3986`, born about\n1773, is far more naturally a grandson or later descendant than William's\ndirect son, although an uncertain attachment remains acceptable while the\nreported shared memorial is unresolved."},{"title":"Source findings","category":"sources","markdown":"| Source | Finding | Assessment |\n| --- | --- | --- |\n| [Classon Porter, \"Congregational Memoirs: Larne and Kilwaughter,\" *The Christian Unitarian* 3 (1864)](https://archive.org/stream/christianunitari0003unse/christianunitari0003unse_djvu.txt) | The congregation's mortcloth was lodged with `William Glasgow Major` in 1734; later accounts name William handling mortcloth receipts in 1739/40, 1741 and 1743. | Probable continuous occurrence of the older William. `Major` may distinguish an elder namesake; it is not evidence of military rank. |\n| Connor probate-index transcription, 1783; searchable through [PRONI Name Search](https://apps.proni.gov.uk/ProniNames_IE/SearchPage.aspx) | William Glasgow, Larne, 1783. | Possible match, but not uniquely distinguishable from William-3962; no relatives or exact death date survive. |\n| 1766 Derryloran religious return | William Glasgow appears at Killycurry. People already attached as the subject's parents stay in the identity summary and are excluded from this alternative-candidate list, regardless of relationship confidence. The main calibration uses clues available on disconnected profiles; existing parent and sibling links are retained as comparison context rather than treated as transferable evidence. Common ordered names and grandparent-to-child echoes receive a small non-zero weight, so a John or James match can support several independent criteria without producing a lead alone. Rare names, repeated bearers and bundles across otherwise distinct branches receive substantially more weight according to catalogue frequency. An exact migration place is weighted by its rarity and repetition across both branches; a shared destination country is worth only one point. Extra weight is added only when at least three independent clue types converge: naming, locality, specific migration, household chronology or collateral networks. Sparse profiles retain a clearly labelled chronology-only fallback instead of disappearing. Countries, states, counties and research clusters do not count as a shared locality, and fallback, broad representative or kin-inferred coordinates are excluded from distance scoring. Shared descendant profiles are removed before branch-name comparison. A candidate already recorded as a parent-in-law is excluded. A confident or independently supported parent is treated as settled; uncertain and unassessed attachments remain open to alternative comparison. A different linked parent, an uncle/aunt or grandparent path, and a matching existing child profile prevent an alternative from being classified as a strong direct-parent lead until the underlying tree conflict or duplicate is resolved. Familiar forms such as Bessie are normalised. Surname remains an eligibility filter worth zero points.","warning":"Naming customs, shared farms and occupations are circumstantial. Children, spouses and collateral relatives may be missing, and tree-derived family networks are not independent evidence. Scores rank research leads; they do not prove parentage."}}
