Gilbert de Glascu

A maintained local edition of the research, with the original sources and assessments.

Glasgow Name Study: project home · chronological bearer register · research directory · research catalogue

Project status: individual pre-1500 documentary subject; architecture reviewed 29 August 2026. This is a free-space research page, not a WikiTree person profile.

Biography

Gilbert or Gilibertus de Glascu entered Dublin's merchant guild before 1222/23 and paid eight shillings.[1]

The roll's place index identifies Glascu with Glasgow in Scotland and lists Gloucester separately. The entry gives no family relationship, occupation beyond guild context or later history.

Research Notes

No record states that Gilbert was related to the earlier Dublin entrants Richard and Robert de Glasgu. The repeated admission payment is not kinship evidence.
