Biography

William, physician de Glasgu, received a royal customs remission on two sacks of wool in a Linlithgow account rendered on 30 March 1395. A chamberlain's account rendered on 3 June 1397 records a royal gift to William with the same occupation and locative.[1]

The repeated forename, occupation and locative within two years make one man highly probable. `de Glasgu` is a geographical identifier distinct from `medicus`.

Research Notes

William is not proved to be the priest who sought Kelso and Kilwinning benefices in 1394. A physician could also be a cleric, but no benefice, patron, office or transaction joins the records.
