Thomas Chinery

1782-04-01 – Death unrecorded

Current conclusion

Thomas Chinery (Chinery-112), born 1 April 1782 in Birmingham, has one attached parent: father Thomas Chinery (Chinery-113). The recursive paternal branch continues to Thomas Chinery (Chinery-114), born about 1725. On 2 September 2026, Elizabeth Key (Key-6784) was created and attached as Chinery-113's mother, and Mathew Chinnerey (Chinnerey-1) was created and attached as Chinery-114's explicitly uncertain father. Chinery-112's mother remains unattached.

The concrete parents for Chinery-112 are Thomas Chinery and Mary Wright. This is supported by the reported St Martin's, Birmingham marriage of Thomas Chinery and Mary Wright on 11 March 1776 and the baptism list that records their son Thomas on 1 April 1782. Both are transcriptions reported in Birmingham local-history discussions, not inspected register images. The existing spouse relationship links Chinery-112 to Jane Swift (Swift-7403). Their FamilySearch marriage record places the couple at Birmingham in July 1803. Jane's live profile was given record-level citations and verified on 2 September 2026.

Current conclusion

Chinery-112

The 28 October 1753 Uttoxeter baptism directly names Thomas and Elizabeth as parents of the younger Thomas represented by Chinery-113. Their 3 February 1741 Uttoxeter marriage identifies the mother as Elizabeth Key. No compatible prior WikiTree profile was found, so Key-6784 was created and linked.

The best-supported father for the true root, Chinery-114, is Mathew Chinnerey. A 6 September 1718 Uttoxeter baptism directly names Mathew as father of Thomas. The child is the right age to marry Elizabeth Key there in 1741, their first recorded son was named Mathew, and their children were baptised in the same parish. This is strong identity continuity but not a single record spanning baptism and marriage, so Chinnerey-1 is attached as an uncertain father.

Identity and relationship assessments

Parentage assessment

Chinery-112

Mary Wright: Chinery-112 mother

Mary Wright is the supported mother for Chinery-112. The Birmingham baptism sequence explicitly groups the 1 April 1782 baptism with children of Thomas and Mary, and the profile's 1803 Birmingham marriage is consistent with that child remaining in the same locality. The mother's given name is therefore concrete; the surname Wright comes from the reported 11 March 1776 St Martin's marriage. No compatible WikiTree profile for Mary Wright was established by an exact-name search tied to Thomas Chinery; no FamilySearch person profile was found that can safely be identified as this Mary. Retain the relationship as evidence-backed, but do not upgrade beyond the quality of the online reports until the register image or an independent marriage record is inspected.

Mother of Chinery-113

The 1753 baptism names Elizabeth as mother and the 1741 marriage names the couple as Thomas Chinnery and Elizabeth Key. Elizabeth Key is therefore the supported mother. A WikiTree search for Elizabeth Key in Staffordshire found no compatible eighteenth-century profile.

Parents of Chinery-114

Mathew Chinnerey is directly named as father in the 1718 Uttoxeter baptism. The same Thomas is strongly indicated by his age, the rare surname, continuous parish, 1741 marriage, and first son Mathew. Because the identification is assembled across records, attach Mathew as uncertain. The baptism names no mother, so leave that field blank.

Duplicate and identity cautions

Chinery-112

The FamilySearch profile MD8T-1N9 is a matching profile for Chinery-114. Its Uttoxeter marriage and child cluster show that WikiTree's estimated Birmingham birthplace is stale family-context inference. No Mathew Chinnerey/Chinnery or compatible Elizabeth Key profile was found in WikiTree's surname searches.

  1. Inspect the original St Martin's Birmingham baptism image for 1 April 1782 and

record its register/page or image reference; this should confirm whether the entry actually says Thomas and Mary and whether Mary is described as Mary Wright only through a separate marriage record.

  1. Inspect the original Uttoxeter images behind the 1718 baptism, 1741 marriage

and 1753 baptism when archive access permits.

The two new profiles and relationships were verified live on 2 September 2026. No catalogue rebuild was made.
