How parent leads are calculated
Automated leads use birth surnames—not married surnames—as parental eligibility, role-specific biological age limits, bounded and approximate-date uncertainty, household chronology, specific time-aware localities, mapped distance, tenancy succession, migration destinations and sex-aware Scottish naming positions across generations. People already attached as the subject's parents stay in the identity summary and are excluded from this alternative-candidate list, regardless of relationship confidence. The main calibration uses clues available on disconnected profiles; existing parent and sibling links are retained as comparison context rather than treated as transferable evidence. Common ordered names and grandparent-to-child echoes receive a small non-zero weight, so a John or James match can support several independent criteria without producing a lead alone. Rare names, repeated bearers and bundles across otherwise distinct branches receive substantially more weight according to catalogue frequency. An exact migration place is weighted by its rarity and repetition across both branches; a shared destination country is worth only one point. Extra weight is added only when at least three independent clue types converge: naming, locality, specific migration, household chronology or collateral networks. Sparse profiles retain a clearly labelled chronology-only fallback instead of disappearing. Countries, states, counties and research clusters do not count as a shared locality, and fallback, broad representative or kin-inferred coordinates are excluded from distance scoring. Shared descendant profiles are removed before branch-name comparison. A candidate already recorded as a parent-in-law is excluded. A confident or independently supported parent is treated as settled; uncertain and unassessed attachments remain open to alternative comparison. A different linked parent, an uncle/aunt or grandparent path, and a matching existing child profile prevent an alternative from being classified as a strong direct-parent lead until the underlying tree conflict or duplicate is resolved. Familiar forms such as Bessie are normalised. Surname remains an eligibility filter worth zero points.
Naming customs, shared farms and occupations are circumstantial. Children, spouses and collateral relatives may be missing, and tree-derived family networks are not independent evidence. Scores rank research leads; they do not prove parentage.

How duplicate leads are calculated
Dates are eligibility gates, not merely deductions: chronologically impossible people are excluded. Dates, places, spouses, parent certainty and children's profiles and names are then compared. A high score is a prompt to inspect records, not a merge recommendation.

Current conclusion
Hugh died 8 July 1767 aged 62, placing his birth between 9 July 1704 and 8 July 1705. His wife was Ann, who died 8 June 1786 aged 75. The Larne memorial does not support Jane as a second wife: one Jane was a deceased child, and the later Jane was wife of Hugh and Ann's son James.
The memorial commemorates eleven children of Hugh and separately adds James Glasgow (Glasgow-3991) as their son, making at least twelve children the most natural reading. Only Jane, Hugh and the adult James are named in the exposed inscription. The derivative register chronology adds Jean, Rose, Mary and a James in 1731-1737, but must be reconciled with the monument son James, born about 1747/48. The two James clusters must remain separate: the monument son was only twelve or thirteen in 1761 and cannot have been the ropemaker who had already established a ropewalk.
Hugh was definitely a Presbyterian ruling elder, although no inspected record supports the exact claim that he was admitted in 1741. No record names his parents. His placement under Robert-1502 remains unproved; James, John and Robert of the older Kilwaughter generation are all possible.
Hugh Glasgow (Glasgow-1499) is a probable duplicate rather than a separately documented man. That profile's only distinguishing event is a supposed death in 1726, but the session-list transcription assigns 1726 to James Glasgow and records this Hugh's death as 8 July 1767. No independent source has been found for another Hugh born about
- A merge should preserve this profile's sourced identity and keep its
parentage uncertain; the unsupported James-1081 father should not displace the current uncertain Robert-1502 hypothesis during the merge.
There is now one exact-age parentage candidate which must be kept separate from that reconstruction. Dublin's official church-record database transcribes the baptism of Hugh Glasroe, son of Wm Glasroe and Jone, at St Catherine's Church of Ireland on 23 October 1704. That date falls exactly within Hugh's memorial-derived birth range. The record supplies no address or sponsors, and no record yet carries this child from Dublin to Larne. It is therefore a serious candidate, not an identification. If the original surname proves to be Glasgow and the child proves to be this Hugh, it would point to William rather than the currently attached Robert as his father.
A newly identified PRONI title chain is the best prospect for extending this household another generation. A 1736 lease put Larne tenements jointly in the names of William and Hugh Glasgow; endorsements inserted new lives in 1751 and 1767; and the same 1736 lease was renewed to Elizabeth Glasgow, widow of Larne, in 1824. If she is Elizabeth, widow of Hugh's grandson William Glasgow-3324, the original renewal may recite the missing succession. The catalogue descriptions do not identify her husband, so that link is not yet proved.

| IrishGenealogy.ie, St Catherine baptism, record `DU-CI-BA-38743`, 23 October 1704 | Official transcript names Hugh Glasroe, father Wm Glasroe, mother Jone; Book 1, p. 139, entry 2577. It gives no address, occupation, denomination detail or sponsors. | Exact chronological fit for Hugh-1503, but neither the surname nor identity may be silently normalised to Glasgow. No Dublin-to-Larne bridge has been found. |
| IrishGenealogy.ie, St Catherine burial, record `DU-CI-BU-42863`, 25 August 1704 | A separate person with blank forename is transcribed as Glasrow in the same parish; Book 1, p. 142, entry 6410. | Shows that Glasroe/Glasrow is not a one-off search-result normalisation. It may reflect a register spelling or related transcription problem, but does not prove Glasgow. |

| Hugh's current WikiTree biography, citing an image held by the manager | Reports a 12 March 1736 joint lease to William and Hugh Glasgow, both of Larne, for Newtown tenements; gives memorial 63221. | Strong association/residence lead, but the memorial number is not found in the online deeds index and must be checked against the image. |
PRONI D300/2/1/100/3A and 3B, 10 March 1736 | Earl of Antrim lease of New Town of Larne tenements to William and Hugh Glasgow, both of Larne, for lives renewable for ever. | Official catalogue description confirms the joint lease and corrects the uncertain profile reference; it states association, not kinship. |
PRONI D2977/3A/4/81/72A, 10 March 1757, with 1751 and 1767 endorsements | William and Hugh Glasgow held two Larne tenements; new lives were inserted at their request. | High-value original target because the named lives may identify the next generation, but their names are omitted from the catalogue. |
PRONI D300/2/1/100/69 and D2977/3A/4/81/72B, 9 August 1824 | Renewal of the lease dated 10 March 1736 to Elizabeth Glasgow, widow, of Larne. | A real cross-generational title chain; the abstract does not identify Elizabeth's husband or state descent. |

| Bigger and Hughes, Larne Parish Churchyard inscriptions, published 1899 | Hugh died 8 July 1767 aged 62; wife Ann died 8 June 1786 aged 75; eleven children were commemorated, including first-named Jane and last-named Hugh; James, their son, died 14 April 1812 aged 64, and his wife Jane died 21 July 1820 aged 79. | Near-primary published transcription of the monument. Exact death dates, relationships and age-derived ranges; worn-stone transcription risk remains. |
| Registry memorial 76,724, deed 17 June 1741 | Names Robert Glasgow of Kilwaughter, farmer, as witness. | Excludes this deed from evidence that Hugh became an elder in 1741. |
| Porter session-list transcription | Records James Glasgow, deceased 1726, and separately Hugh dead 8 July 1767. | The derivative timeline's supposed earlier Hugh died 1726 is a copying/reconstruction error; do not create that man. |

Evidence assessmentWhat is supported, uncertain or disputed in the current case model.10 claims
Documented or strongly supported
Hugh Glasgow was recorded in Duneane civil parish (1740).
Protestant householder in Duneane
Jean Glasgow was daughter of Hugh Glasgow
The register chronology records Jean in Hugh's New Town/Larne household in 1731.
Rose Glasgow was daughter of Hugh Glasgow
The register chronology records Rose in Hugh's New Town/Larne household in 1735.
Mary Glasgow was daughter of Hugh Glasgow
The register chronology records Mary in Hugh's New Town/Larne household in 1736.
James Glasgow was son of Hugh Glasgow
Bigger and Hughes's Larne inscription explicitly calls the man who died 14 April 1812 aged 64 their Son after Hugh and Ann.
Hugh Glasgow was son of Hugh Glasgow
The Kilwaughter chronology places the younger Hugh in the household and reports death aged eleven in 1756.
Working hypotheses and conflicts
Hugh Glasgow was recorded in Larne (c.1705–1767).
New Town / Larne household
James Glasgow was possible son of Hugh Glasgow
The register chronology records a James in Hugh's New Town/Larne household in 1737, but the original entry has not been inspected and Hugh's monument proves a different son James born about 1747/48. The 1737 man may be the ropemaker, an earlier child, a mistranscription or part of another Hugh household.
William Glasgow was possible brother or close associate of Hugh Glasgow
PRONI D300/2/1/100/3A-B records a 10 March 1736 lease of New Town Larne tenements to William and Hugh jointly. D2977/3A/4/81/72A records related new-life endorsements in 1751 and 1767. Joint tenancy does not state brotherhood.
