Margaret Glasgow

Biography
Margaret was born in 1885. She was the legal daughter of William Glasgow and Sarah Jane Gray; the couple were married at the time. However, numerous DNA matches with her Long descendants with those of the descendants by the name Westover, indicate that she was the biological daughter of a neighbor. Specifically, she was likely the daughter of one of the five sons of neighbors John Lester Westover and Esther Cronk, who also lived in Greenwood township, St Clair Co., Michigan about the time of Margaret's birth. Those sons names were Ansel Egbert, John Weldon, Ambrose Jackson, Alvin Arthur and George L Westover. 

Margaret's parents William Glasgow and Sarah Jane Gray were married for twelve years before Margaret, their only child, was born. The year before her birth the couple are living in separate households on the 1884 State of Michigan census. Margaret was seven years old when in November 1892 William put this ad in the local newspaper: "Notice is hereby given that my wife Sarah Glasgow has left my bed and board without just cause or provocation, taking with her my child Margaret Glasgow; that I shall pay no bills or accounts contracted by my said wife." The same newspaper, The Yale Expositor, announced two years later (16 Nov 1894) that Sarah had divorced William Glasgow on the grounds of cruelty and neglect, and she was given sole custody of their only child.

William Glasgow had a known sister also living in Greenwood township, Michigan: Mary Jane Glasgow, wife of Robert Huston. Mary Jane gave birth to five known children. She had been married first in 1857 in County Antrim, Ireland to Samuel McCleary. Their two children were born in Dalry, Scotland: Mary Jane and George W McCleary. Mary Jane Glasgow McCleary took her baby son George and fled to Ontario, abandoning her marriage and leaving her young daughter with her paternal grandparents. When her husband Samuel McCleary found her in Ontario, she had married again to Robert Huston and she had given birth to a son. Together the couple had three children: Robert, William and Andrew. These five children all had kids, who should have shared DNA with Margaret Glasgow's descendants. But zero shared connections with the McCleary or Huston cousins have been found.

Margaret Glasgow Long passed away in February 28, 1949 at Yale, Michigan, where she lived most of her life.

Margaret was born in 1885. She was the legal daughter of William Glasgow and Sarah Jane Gray; the couple were married at the time. However, numerous DNA matches with her Long descendants with those of the descendants by the name Westover, indicate that she was the biological daughter of a neighbor.
