Abraham Glasgow

Biography
Abraham (also Abram) Glasgow was born about 1828 in Chester County carded military service , Pennsylvania . He served with the famous 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry during the American Civil War. He was the husband of Lydia Ballard.

From at least age 14 on, he lived in the household of the Quaker Friends Cloud family and worked on the Cloud family farm(s) in Pocopson, Pennsylvania. 

He stood about 5'2" (1.57m) tall with a light complexion, brown eyes, and black hair when he enlisted in 1863.

Military Service
During the Civil War, he served in Company B of the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, the second It was the first with federal recognition; the 1st Kansas Colored Volunteer Infantry regiment was against the wishes of the Secretary of War and filled only six companies, but did see action a full year before the 54th regiment in the United States made up entirely of enlisted men of color. He was about 26 years old, single and working as a farmer when he enlisted as a Private on 11 March 1863 in Unionville, Pennsylvania. He was promoted to Corporal on 31 July 1863. He was wounded in the trenches in front of Fort Wagner on 28 September 1863 and wounded in action on 20 February 1864 at the Battle of Olustee. He mustered out 20 August 1865 with his regiment. :Darkness came on early amid the tall pines. It was now about 5:30pm. The Fifty-fourth had lost heavily. Corporal Peal, with the State color, was mortally wounded, and from his hands Corp. Preston Helman, of Company E, received the flag. Of the color guard Corporal Gooding, of Company C, was mortally wounded, and Corporal Glasgow of B and Palmer of K were also wounded. One other non-commissioned officer was killed, and seven wounded. Only a few cartridges remained in the boxes; more were brought, but they proved to be of the wrong calibre. Emilio, p. 168

There are two entries for an Abraham Glasgow born about 1836 in Chester County. Working backwards, there's decent contextual confirmation that the 1860 Pocopson record with the Cloud family is him, so it follows that the 1850 Pocopson record with the Cloud family likely also is. Maybe this is him, too? The consistent Cloud household member in both records is Joshua Cloud; c. Jane and William J. Cloud (Quakers); b. 2 March 1824 Chester County, Pennsylvania; white, farmer.
