Biography
When Mary Harrington, nee Glasgow, arrived in New South Wales on 13 Dec 1851 as an assisted migrant she was 37 years old. She arrived with her husband, Michael Harrington (38), and eight children Mary (19), Honora (17), Bridget (16), Edmund (14), James (13), Phillip (9), Michael (7), & Ellen (4). The family were said to be from Borrisoleigh, Tipperary in Ireland, however, It is not clear whether both Mary and Michael were born in this area birthplace or whether they settled to raise a family. The parents of both Mary ( James Glasgow & Honora Spellman) and Michael (Edmund Harrington & Margaret Shinner) had passed away before the family migrated. 

Between 1841 and 1851, the village of Borrisoleigh was under significant pressure from social upheaval related to the Irish Potato Famine. Over this ten year period, the population was reduced by about one-third, from 3,757 to 2,564. Many Irish immigrants followed family members, who had made the journey before them. For example, Sarah Lynch, a cousin of Mary, had previously arrived, however, although Mary did know where in New South Wales. Similarly, Michael Harrington's sister, Mary, and her husband James Brennan had migrated with no news of their location, while cousin, Ellen Fogarty and her husband, Patrick Purcell were known to be living in Botany, New South Wales

Mary survived her husband and passed away in 1891 in an area called Woodlands, near the Wentworth Swamps in West Maitland. * This is evidenced by the numbers of residents names Harrington from Borrisoloeigh who signed the Cormack Petition in February 1858 in support of brothers, Daniel and William Cormack, who were believed to have been wrongly convicted for the murder of land agent, John Ellis. The petition was motivated by growing unease at the administration of criminal justice in Ireland at the time and the increasing number of executions. 
* Sarah Lynch migrated to New South Wales with her husband Jeremiah Waddick, under his family name in 1842 on the Woodbridge aged 32.
