Jean Glasgow

Biography
Jean was born about 1733, probably in or near Falkirk, Stirlingshire.

On the 5th March 1754, she married John Renny, writer, and bailie of Falkirk. Church of Scotland. Old Parish Records. Marriage: John Renny and Jean Glasgow (FR2340), 5th March 1754 in Falkirk (Stirlingshire), parish no. 479, ref. 80/210. Jean Renny née Glasgow died at Falkirk, on the 9th January 1808, aged about seventy-five years. The Scots Magazine. Vol. LXX (January 1808). Death notice: “Jan. 9. At Falkirk, at an advanced age, Mrs Jean Glasgow, relict of the late Mr John Renny, writer in Falkirk.” Edinburgh: printed for Archibald Constable and Company, by J. Ruthven and Sons, 1808 (pg 158). 

Under the administration of her estate (dated 8th May 1809), disposition and settlement were agreed by Margaret, Jean, Helen and Elisabeth Renny daughters procreated of the marriage betwixt John Renny writer in ffalkirk & Jean Glasgow spouses both deceased, and Thomas Colvin Merchant in Glasgow husband of the said Helen Renny, & George Colvin Merch’t in Glasgow husband of the said Margaret Renny, and for Jean & Isabella Renny daughters of the deceased Patrick Renny eldest son. Glasgow or Renny, Jean. Probate papers: (i) Inventory of the personal Estate of Mrs Jean Glasgow or Renny Relict of John Renny Writer in Falkirk, who died at Falkirk on the ninth day of January 1808, with Interest due on principal Sums at that date; (ii) Affidavit of Jean Renny, one of the Daughters and Executors of the deceased Mrs Jean Glasgow, dated 12th May 1809; “In the Comm’y Court of Stirling Stirling 5th May 1809 Procurator for Margaret, Jean, Helen and Elisabeth Renny daughters procreated of the marriage betwixt John Renny writer in ffalkirk & Jean Glasgow spouses both deceased, and Thomas Colvin Merchant in Glasgow husband of the said Helen Renny, & George Colvin Merch’t in Glasgow husband of the said Margaret Renny, and for Jean & Isabella Renny daughters of the deceased Patrick Renny eldest son of the said John Renny & Jean Glasgow; disposition and settlements, &c., dated at Stirling, 8 May 1809.
