Biography
A Royal Regiment of Artillery promotion report names Second Lieutenant George Glasgow to be First Lieutenant in the room of Francis Downman, preferred. Published 7 September 1771. A reported promotion in the explicitly named regiment; completed service, age and relatives are not established. Exact name and artillery context with progressive reported ranks support a provisional career study; individual continuity across the 22-year interval remains unproved. No checked existing profile is identified. The possible later chronological match George-1529 does not prove the early lieutenant’s identity. The 1774 unassigned Second Lieutenant notice remains a separate subject.[1]
An Office of Ordnance notice names Captain-Lieutenant George Glasgow to be Captain in the Royal Regiment of Artillery, vice Wright. Published 5 October 1793. Original Office of Ordnance heading reads 25 September; the parallel Observer notice reads 27 September. Retain both printed dates without asserting two independent promotions or inventing a precise commission day. Exact name and artillery context with progressive reported ranks support a provisional career study; individual continuity across the 22-year interval remains unproved. No checked existing profile is identified. The possible later chronological match George-1529 does not prove the early lieutenant’s identity. The 1774 unassigned Second Lieutenant notice remains a separate subject.[2][3]
A War Office notice dated 15 May 1795 names Captain George Glasgow, artillery, among captains appointed to be majors in the army. Published 21 May 1795; original War Office heading explicitly 15 May 1795. Both the Captains heading and final to be Majors in the army line are preserved. This announces an army-major appointment; technical brevet classification or completed service is not independently established. Exact name and artillery context with progressive reported ranks support a provisional career study; individual continuity across the 22-year interval remains unproved. No checked existing profile is identified. The possible later chronological match George-1529 does not prove the early lieutenant’s identity. The 1774 unassigned Second Lieutenant notice remains a separate subject.[4]

Bounded public catalogue/QMD comparison, not exhaustive external research. Missing career fields are not exclusions.
The 1793 two-issue Captain report is one reported promotion with differing September heading dates. The 1795 complete notice announces majors in the army; do not reduce it to a mere list of captains.
No technical brevet label or family relationship is inferred.
Glasgow-1070: Estimated c. 1719 birth permits an older adult, but the later army promotions make this a weak chronological comparison. No Royal Artillery identity or service bridge. Glasgow-4165: Uncertain birth before 1722 permits an older adult, without an artillery-service bridge. Before is an upper birth bound, not an exact 1722 year. Glasgow-1529: Estimated c. 1769 birth would make him too young for 1771 if approximately correct; the 1793/1795 Captain/Major notices could fit by age. A later namesake remains possible, without a service identifier.
Inspect original Gazette/Ordnance appointments, Royal Artillery commission/service registers and muster rolls for age, earlier ranks and individual continuity; compare the candidate family records.

War Office 15 May 1795: Captain George Glasgow, artillery, among captains to be majors in the army (brevet). The DCB officer was an RA captain from 25 Sept 1793 and on the Quebec command from Oct 1794; the DCB lists his regimental majority (3 Dec 1800) but not brevets. Identity with him is probable rather than strong, because the earlier RA George (1st Lt 1771, Askwith p.11) would also have been a senior captain by 1795 if still serving. No WikiTree profile exists for Lt-Gen George Glasgow RA (d. London 28 Oct 1820; wife Margaret Green; nine children, eight born in Canada). Glasgow-1529 (christened 7 May 1769 Wandel & Lamington, married Lilias Robertson) cannot have held these ranks - unlikely. Glasgow-1070 (bapt. 1719, father of a Lanarkshire family) and Glasgow-4165 (b. by 1722, Irvine family) have no artillery link and are far too old for a 1771 cadet - unlikely. A new profile draft is warranted, built on the DCB entry and Kane/Askwith's list.

Probably Lt-Gen George Glasgow RA (DCB); the earlier RA George is a possible alternative. No WikiTree profile. - [John W.
