Coverage, survival & limitations

Availability depends on the particular repository, locality, date range and record series. We have not established complete coverage for this collection. Follow each provider link for its holdings and access terms; a missing result is not proof of absence.

Reading the evidence: an index, transcript, provider search page and original image are different sources. A recorded image link does not mean its reading or identity match is confirmed. Inspect the assessment and source page before changing a family relationship. Repository guides checked 4 October 2026.

How to read these notices

Cards lead with the person named in the notice; profile candidates are assessed separately. Birth cutoffs labelled “by c.” are estimates, usually assuming an adult professional was at least 18; open the birth note for the basis. Event groups are broad navigation aids built from each notice’s record type. A relationship filter identifies family wording in the notice, not a proved match to a WikiTree family.

What the notice says

Mrs Glascoe’s shop on Ormond Quay, Dublin, is reported with shutters taken down and several panes broken. Passers-by alarmed the house; she requested police protection, which the paper says was refused.

Evidence and identity limits

Reported attempted robbery on the preceding Saturday, around one to two in the morning. No given name or husband is supplied; neither Dublin candidate is identified. Identity review (6 October 2026): Freeman's Journal 9 Oct 1787: the shop of Mrs Glascoe on Ormond Quay was attacked at night and she asked for police protection. She is very probably the wife or widow of Thomas Glasco, watchmaker at 20 Ormond Quay in 1783, but which wife cannot be determined. Candidates are Miss Hynes (m. 1779, no profile), Mary King (King-67628, 1785 licence with a Thomas Glasco) and Duffy-6026.

Who this may be

[b. c. 1755; d. ?] · shopkeeper on Ormond Quay (victim of attempted break-in)
Why this candidate?

Ormond Quay is where the watchmaker Glasco moved in 1779 (group 1050086381) and where Thomas Glasco, watch maker, is listed at No. 20 in 1783. A 'Mrs Glascoe' with a shop there in 1787 is most likely his wife or widow. Thomas Glasco's known marriages are: 1773, Margaret Duffy (St Audoen's COI; on WikiTree as Duffy-6026, though that profile is named 'Ann'); 1779, Miss Hynes of Ormond-quay (Saunders's extraction); and a 1785 marriage licence, Thomas Glasco and Mary King (index quoted on Mangan-824; profile King-67628). It is not known whether these are one man marrying serially or two or three men. King-67628 is listed first because 1785 is closest to 1787. Miss Hynes is the bride tied to Ormo
