Coverage, survival & limitations

Availability depends on the particular repository, locality, date range and record series. We have not established complete coverage for this collection. Follow each provider link for its holdings and access terms; a missing result is not proof of absence.

Reading the evidence: an index, transcript, provider search page and original image are different sources. A recorded image link does not mean its reading or identity match is confirmed. Inspect the assessment and source page before changing a family relationship. Repository guides checked 4 October 2026.

How to read these notices

Cards lead with the person named in the notice; profile candidates are assessed separately. Birth cutoffs labelled “by c.” are estimates, usually assuming an adult professional was at least 18; open the birth note for the basis. Event groups are broad navigation aids built from each notice’s record type. A relationship filter identifies family wording in the notice, not a proved match to a WikiTree family.

What the notice says

The Belfast News-Letter of 10 July 1835 reports that the Presbyterian congregation of Castledawson had given a unanimous call to Rev. James Glasgow to become its pastor. The account describes him as a former student at the Northern Seminary and praises his academic honours and ministerial qualities. It does not give the exact call date.

Evidence and identity limits

The call report remains valid and distinct from ordination. Use 10 July as the report date only; the call had occurred by then, but its exact date is unstated. The report date is not the exact call date; the October ordination is a separate event. Identity review (6 October 2026): Belfast News-Letter, 10 July 1835: the Castledawson Presbyterian congregation had given a unanimous call to Rev. James Glasgow, a former Northern Seminary (RBAI) student. This is James McClure Glasgow (Glasgow-1780); the exact call date is not given.

What the notice says

The Belfast News-Letter reports that on Tuesday, 6 October 1835, Rev. James Glasgow was ordained to the pastoral charge of the Castledawson congregation in connection with the Synod of Ulster. Rev. Mr Wallace of Rasharkin preached, Rev. Mr Rogers of Kilrea gave the customary defence of Presbyterian ordination, and Rev. Mr Elder of Finvoy offered the ordination prayer. These clergy’s roles do not establish kinship or James’s residence in their locations. After the solemn service, the congregation entertained the Presbytery and Mr. Glasgow’s friends at a dinner at Mr. Oliver’s hotel.

Evidence and identity limits

The ordination and date 6 October remain valid. Keep separate from the earlier call report; correct any profile text that labels 6 October as the call date, while leaving the exact call date open. The exact call date remains unstated; do not label 6 October as the call. Identity review (6 October 2026): Tuesday 6 October 1835: Rev. James Glasgow ordained to the pastoral charge of Castledawson (Synod of Ulster), with Revs Wallace (Rasharkin), Rogers (Kilrea) and Elder (Finvoy) officiating. This is James McClure Glasgow (Glasgow-1780); the Fasti gives the same ordination date. The officiating clergy are not relatives.

What the notice says

Position 2 (place): Trial report: “Alex. Killop, John Mays, and John Shields, for an assault on Malcolm Connolly, on the 17th November last, at Ra[sharkin]. This was a party affray …” The highlighted fragment begins “Ra-”; surrounding word and syntax support Rasharkin as the location. Rasharkin is the place of the assault. This is a passage-level classification only, not a whole-page claim.

Evidence and identity limits

Original-position final review: the quoted Glasgow/Rasharkin passage(s) on this page are classified as place, vessel, or other context, not a Glasgow personal surname. This is a passage-level result, not a claim that the entire page contains no relevant name.

Who this may be

No profile assigned; identity remains unresolved.
