Reported events, notices, advertisements and letters. OCR matches need visual checking; place names, vessels and matches to other surnames are excluded from Glasgow surname evidence.
Availability depends on the particular repository, locality, date range and record series. We have not established complete coverage for this collection. Follow each provider link for its holdings and access terms; a missing result is not proof of absence.
Reading the evidence: an index, transcript, provider search page and original image are different sources. A recorded image link does not mean its reading or identity match is confirmed. Inspect the assessment and source page before changing a family relationship. Repository guides checked 4 October 2026.

How to read these notices
Cards lead with the person named in the notice; profile candidates are assessed separately. Birth cutoffs labelled “by c.” are estimates, usually assuming an adult professional was at least 18; open the birth note for the basis. Event groups are broad navigation aids built from each notice’s record type. A relationship filter identifies family wording in the notice, not a proved match to a WikiTree family.

What the notice says
Mr William Glasgow rescued a child whose clothes were burning at Cookstown, rolling it in snow.
Evidence and identity limits
The child is unnamed and no relationship to William is stated. No age/family identification for William. Identity review (6 October 2026): Belfast News-Letter (6 Jan 1854): Mr William Glasgow of Cookstown put out a child's burning clothes by rolling it in snow. The rescuer is most plausibly the Cookstown draper William Glasgow-3814, but this is unproved; no kin are named.
[b. c. 1796; d. 1883-07-04] · rescuer, CookstownWhy this candidate?
'Mr William Glasgow', Cookstown, 1854. Glasgow-3814 (b. c.1796; died at Loy, Cookstown, 1883, retired merchant and bachelor) fits the Slater 1846 William Glasgow, linen and woollen draper, William St, and the 1856 retirement presentation, so he was a prominent Cookstown William. Competitors: the Drapersfield partner William (no profile; active 1858-1866); Glasgow-1737 and -1694 (Killycurragh). Glasgow-1675 was in Ohio. Nothing discriminates, so possible.
