Reported events, notices, advertisements and letters. OCR matches need visual checking; place names, vessels and matches to other surnames are excluded from Glasgow surname evidence.
Availability depends on the particular repository, locality, date range and record series. We have not established complete coverage for this collection. Follow each provider link for its holdings and access terms; a missing result is not proof of absence.
Reading the evidence: an index, transcript, provider search page and original image are different sources. A recorded image link does not mean its reading or identity match is confirmed. Inspect the assessment and source page before changing a family relationship. Repository guides checked 4 October 2026.

How to read these notices
Cards lead with the person named in the notice; profile candidates are assessed separately. Birth cutoffs labelled “by c.” are estimates, usually assuming an adult professional was at least 18; open the birth note for the basis. Event groups are broad navigation aids built from each notice’s record type. A relationship filter identifies family wording in the notice, not a proved match to a WikiTree family.

What the notice says
William Glasgow is named as master of the Lady Forbes in the Sutton shipping casualty report.
Evidence and identity limits
The 6 February Caledonian report names William Glasgow master of Lady Forbes, loaded with rum for Waterford, driven ashore near Sutton, crew saved. It describes the same named master/vessel/grounding as the 23 January Freeman’s Journal report in different wording; this is a curated same-event grouping, not an exact-text reprint. Belonging to Glasgow describes the vessel, not personal residence or origin. Identity review (6 October 2026): Jan/Feb 1768: William Glasgow, master of the Lady Forbes (of Glasgow) with rum for Waterford, driven ashore near Sutton, crew saved. No WikiTree William can be singled out.

What the notice says
A private-sale advertisement describes Nether-Mains, Nethermains Dean, Nethermains Niven and other lands at Kilwinning as belonging to George Glasgow, merchant in Glasgow, offering them by roup at James Shaw’s, Irvine, on the second Tuesday of July.
Evidence and identity limits
Thirteen June/July 1768 issues preserve a private-sale notice. Earlier copies say July next and July copies July inst.; retain the issue-specific wording without asserting another sale or completed transfer. Merks/shillings of old/new extent are historical land valuations, not stated acreages. Belonging is the advertisement’s description, not an independently inspected title. One provisional merchant/property study consolidates the exact named Nethermains subject and compatible Glasgow partnership context, retaining separate sale stages. Compatible profiles remain possible. George-3312’s recorded 1768 death does not exclude later reprints or past-tense property references; no continuity of active life, ownership, completed sale or family is proved. The Manchester inventor and officers remain separate. Identity review (6 October 2026): June-July 1768 sale of Nether-Mains and other Kilwinning lands 'belonging to George Glasgow, merchant in Glasgow'. Identified as Glasgow-3312 (probable) through the Commissariot entry 'George Glasgow, of Nethermains' and the Martin/Ashinyards descent of Nethermains; also shows Glasgow-3312's 1768 death date is doubtful.

Name + unique estate designation + place + kin context agree. (1) The 1768 sale notice calls the owner of Nether-Mains, Nethermains Dean and Nethermains Niven at Kilwinning 'George Glasgow, merchant in Glasgow'; the 1777 judicial-sale notices call him 'George Glasgow of Nether Mains'. (2) The Glasgow Commissariot register (inspected via archive.org OCR) confirms on 27 June 1768 the testament of 'Margaret [Buchanan], wife of George Glasgow, of Nethermains, daughter of William B., of Drumakill' - the same designation, and Glasgow-3312 is already married on WikiTree to Margaret Buchanan (Buchanan-12640), daughter of William (Buchanan-12641). (3) Paterson (Kilwinning parish) shows Nethermains ca
