Reported events, notices, advertisements and letters. OCR matches need visual checking; place names, vessels and matches to other surnames are excluded from Glasgow surname evidence.
Availability depends on the particular repository, locality, date range and record series. We have not established complete coverage for this collection. Follow each provider link for its holdings and access terms; a missing result is not proof of absence.
Reading the evidence: an index, transcript, provider search page and original image are different sources. A recorded image link does not mean its reading or identity match is confirmed. Inspect the assessment and source page before changing a family relationship. Repository guides checked 4 October 2026.

How to read these notices
Cards lead with the person named in the notice; profile candidates are assessed separately. Birth cutoffs labelled “by c.” are estimates, usually assuming an adult professional was at least 18; open the birth note for the basis. Event groups are broad navigation aids built from each notice’s record type. A relationship filter identifies family wording in the notice, not a proved match to a WikiTree family.

John Glasgow signs a Cecil County land vendue notice for William Graham’s creditors and plans a Nottingham store by the end of September.
Evidence and identity limits
Original inspected; candidates Glasgow-2870 and Glasgow-2871 remain unassigned. No Irish origin or family is stated. Identity review (6 October 2026): John Glasgow signs a 1760 vendue notice for William Graham's creditors (200-acre Susquehanna tract near Shepard's Ferry, Cecil County) and announces a store at Nottingham. The Chester County tax lists show John Glasgow as a West Nottingham freeman in 1760 and as storekeeper there in 1765 and 1767, with the same holding continuing to 1791 and passing to Hugh Glasgow in 1793: this is probably Glasgow-2871 (d. 1792), not the elder Glasgow-2870.

Independent record chain: Chester County tax index - John Glasgow, West Nottingham, 1760 'Freeman' (the only John in Nottingham that year), 1762-1764 taxed, 1765 'Storekeeper' (50 acres), 1767 'Storekeeper' (50 acres), landholder 50 acres 1768-1786 and 80 acres 1787-1791; then Hugh Glasgow, West Nottingham, 1793-1799, 80 acres. The notice's intention to open a Nottingham store by end of September 1760 is fulfilled by the storekeeper entries; the holding series ends in 1791 and Glasgow-2871 died 3 Apr 1792 in Chester County; WikiTree and Gibson's History of York County make Hugh (b. 1769 Nottingham) his son, and Hugh takes up an 80-acre West Nottingham holding from 1793.
