Reported events, notices, advertisements and letters. OCR matches need visual checking; place names, vessels and matches to other surnames are excluded from Glasgow surname evidence.
Availability depends on the particular repository, locality, date range and record series. We have not established complete coverage for this collection. Follow each provider link for its holdings and access terms; a missing result is not proof of absence.
Reading the evidence: an index, transcript, provider search page and original image are different sources. A recorded image link does not mean its reading or identity match is confirmed. Inspect the assessment and source page before changing a family relationship. Repository guides checked 4 October 2026.

How to read these notices
Cards lead with the person named in the notice; profile candidates are assessed separately. Birth cutoffs labelled “by c.” are estimates, usually assuming an adult professional was at least 18; open the birth note for the basis. Event groups are broad navigation aids built from each notice’s record type. A relationship filter identifies family wording in the notice, not a proved match to a WikiTree family.

What the notice says
John Glascow is an adjoining landholder in a West-Nottingham Township, Chester County execution-sale notice for 22½ acres, late Michael Dintz’s estate, bounded by Abraham Bunting, John Glascow and others.
Evidence and identity limits
Planned sale 11 May at one o’clock on the premises; Henry Hayes, sheriff; notice dated 28 April 1773. John is the neighbouring landholder, not the deceased estate owner, buyer or executor. Sale completion is unproved. Identity review (6 October 2026): John Glascow is the neighbouring landholder of Michael Dintz's 22.5-acre West Nottingham tract in an April 1773 sheriff's sale. The only John taxed as a West Nottingham landholder in 1773 is the continuing storekeeper/landholder whose holding passes to Hugh Glasgow in 1793, i.e. probably Glasgow-2871.

1773 Chester County tax index, West Nottingham: John Glasgow, 50 acres, Landholder, and John Glasgow, Inmate (an inmate is a non-landholding lodger and so cannot be the bounding landholder). The landholder's holding runs continuously 1765-1791 (storekeeper 1765/1767) and is followed by Hugh Glasgow's West Nottingham holding from 1793, matching Glasgow-2871 (d. 3 Apr 1792; father of Hugh, Glasgow-2873). Glasgow-2870 died 1769. Glasgow-4027 (Moneymore John, later of Peters Twp, Cumberland Co.) is at most the inmate. The East Nottingham landholder John (30 acres in 1773) is a residual competitor only if the Dintz tract straddled the township line. Name + township + landholder status + date agre

What the notice says
James Glasgow (2) is listed among letters remaining in Lancaster’s post office.
Evidence and identity limits
Alphabetical letters-remaining list headed Post-Office, Lancaster. The (2) marker is preserved without reading it as an age. Nearby county names belong to other entries; the post office is not proof of James’s residence. Normalized Glasgow is the personal surname reading. The three checked profiles remain possible; none identifies the addressee. No link to the 1757 Philadelphia/Fogs Manor, 1775 Charlestown or 1777 shipmaster James is established. Identity review (6 October 2026): James Glasgow, with a '(2)' marker, in the Lancaster post-office letter list of July 1773. Name only; no profile can be singled out.
