Reported events, notices, advertisements and letters. OCR matches need visual checking; place names, vessels and matches to other surnames are excluded from Glasgow surname evidence.
Availability depends on the particular repository, locality, date range and record series. We have not established complete coverage for this collection. Follow each provider link for its holdings and access terms; a missing result is not proof of absence.
Reading the evidence: an index, transcript, provider search page and original image are different sources. A recorded image link does not mean its reading or identity match is confirmed. Inspect the assessment and source page before changing a family relationship. Repository guides checked 4 October 2026.

How to read these notices
Cards lead with the person named in the notice; profile candidates are assessed separately. Birth cutoffs labelled “by c.” are estimates, usually assuming an adult professional was at least 18; open the birth note for the basis. Event groups are broad navigation aids built from each notice’s record type. A relationship filter identifies family wording in the notice, not a proved match to a WikiTree family.

Evidence and identity limits
Two issues reprint one list. The complete heading and surname entry are saved; no identity, residence, collection, occupation, family or continued life is proved. Identity review (6 October 2026): A Newbern post-office list headed 1 July 1794 includes James Glasgow. This is a probable match to Glasgow-634, whose plantation in Glasgow County lay in the New Bern district. The 1799 university notice styles him 'of Newbern'.
[b. c. 1735; d. 1819-11-17] · addressee, Newbern post office (July 1794)Why this candidate?
New Bern was the post town of the district containing Glasgow-634's home county (Dobbs, renamed Glasgow County in 1791). His earlier mail, in 1788, was also listed at Newbern ('Contentney'), and the 1799 University trustee notice calls him 'Mr. James Glasgow, Newbern'. Name, regional post office, repeated association and the lack of any rival NC James make the match probable, although the entry itself has no title. Identity context as in group 604128613: Glasgow-634 is the documented NC Secretary of State 1777–1798, Dobbs/Glasgow County resident and militia colonel; WikiTree has no other adult NC James Glasgow (son Glasgow-2492, b. 1776, is the only other).
