The paternal path narrows into the Scottish surname.

FT32941 is ancestral to FT25406, which gathers the tested Glasgow/Glasgo lines. The documentary audit asks whether English-associated church or burgh networks can explain the Scottish surname without treating the reported Duffield placement as already verified.

The genetic context

FT25406 has an estimated common ancestor around 1431, with a reported range of 1199–1608. It gives the wider Glasgow family an older shared node above the FT20271 lines.

The historical interpretation

Master John of Huntingdon served in Bishop Jocelin’s Glasgow household, where Roger de Glasgu already used the locative in the same charter. Later records place separate Glasgow bearers in church, royal, burgh and property settings from 1259 to 1506.

John of Huntingdon demonstrates a real English-associated clerical route into Glasgow, but his contemporary Roger de Glasgu prevents a simple ‘John changed his name’ story. At the later end, the Glasgow burgess of 1447–1455, the Stirling witness of 1475–1479/80, John alias Smith in 1506 and the Saltmarket holder from 1527 remain separate identities until property or kinship connects them.

Next research step: Seek explicit kinship or title succession. Obtain BL/204 in full, keep the 1506 alias rent separate from the 1527 Saltmarket parcel, and test the reported Duffield DNA placement independently.
