TMRCA from the supplied research snapshot, not a date of migration or surname adoption.

The medieval fork produces several later surnames.

FT4811 brings together the tested ancestors of Churnside/Brown, Glasgow and the Wright line. A separate project page reports a Duffield line on FT32941, but its kit identity, placement evidence and pedigree are not present in this dataset.

The genetic context

FT4811 is estimated around 1044 CE, with the source’s 95% range of 697–1313. FTA30932 and FT32941 are different child branches; Glasgow continues on the FT32941 side.

The historical interpretation

Duffield Castle supplies a genuine de Ferrers setting in Derbyshire, but Roger de Duffeld’s inspected record is a 1194 Yorkshire Pipe Roll entry and his locative could derive from North or South Duffield. Churnside’s Berwickshire lead, Brown’s American root and Wright’s later London anchor remain separate paper trails.

The genetic fork reconnects modern paternal lines; it does not identify their medieval surnames or households. The Norman/Ferrers route remains one mechanism to test alongside earlier British and Norse alternatives. The modern Farrier/Ferrier STR matches are a separate question from the medieval de Ferrers family.

Next research step: Verify the reported Duffield FT32941 result and pedigree, inspect collateral roots, and use a Big Y upgrade to place one of the three Farrier/Ferrier Y-111 matches.

FTA30932 and FT32941 are sibling branches below FT4811. The Glasgow path follows FT32941; FTA30932 is useful collateral context, not an inserted Glasgow ancestor.
