Biography

John of Glasgow was a member of the Holyrood Abbey community that swore fealty to Edward I on 7 January 1299.[1]

Possible father: John de Glasgu, Bishop Gamelin's chaplain (fl. 1259). Forty years separate their records, fitting consecutive generations, and both belonged to Scottish religious communities; no act states the relationship.
Possible son: John de Glasgu, royal-account payee (fl. 1343). He is the nearest later John using the same personal locative and fits the next generation.

The record identifies John through Glasgow but gives no parentage, office or earlier history.

Research Notes

John de Glasgu, chaplain of Bishop Gamelin in 1259, could theoretically have entered the Augustinian community in old age. Forty years and the absence of any repeated office, patron, associate or alias make that identity unproved. Keep the men separate.
