Biography
Rachel was born in Dalry, Ayrshire, Scotland, on 17 May 1769. She was the daughter of John Dunlop of Dunlop (or, that Ilk) and Frances Ann Wallace of Craigie. On 23 February 1802 in Dunlop, Rachel married Robert Glasgow of Montgreenan. Dunlop Parish, Church of Scotland, "Old Parish Registers Banns and Marriages," database, National Records of Scotland (ScotlandsPeople (https://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk) : viewed 30 Dec 2025), marriage of Robert Glasgow and Rachel Dunlop, 23 Feb 1802; citing Ref No: 20 / 211, parish 591: 20 Feb 1802 Robert Montgomery Esq. of Montgreenan in the parish of Irvine and Miss Rachel Dunlop in this parish gave in their names for proclamation in order to marriage and were married the 23rd same month. They had no surviving issue. 

In her youth, Rachel was an artist and an author with great literary taste. She was mentioned by Robert Burns, her mother's friend, in relation to a painting or sketch she made of Coila, the poet's muse.

Robert Glasgow of Montgreenan passed away at Montgreenan House in Kilwinning parish on 19 April 1827. His widow passed away at Pau, in the Pyrenees, on 19 July 1828. She was commemorated by the erection of a well in Kilwinning's Howgate and left £200 to the poor of the town in her last will and testament. Her husband's natural daughter, Anne, now married to Robert Robertson of Prenderguest, inherited the Montgreenan estate, changing his surname to 'Glasgow'. Robert Robertson Glasgow, his son, inherited in 1845 and in 1860 his son, Robert Bruce Robertson Glasgow, inherited Montgreenan in his turn. In 1873 R. B. Robertson-Glasgow was Lieutenant-Colonel commanding the 1st Volunteer Battalion, Royal Scots Fusiliers and in 1896, R. P.
