The statement that Robert died “without issue” cannot stand without qualification: UCL's summary of his 1803 trust reports reputed natural children John and Emilia, and identifies Anne as a natural daughter in the Robertson succession. The original trust is not yet read here. The inspected 1835 appeal report independently calls Mrs Robertson Glasgow Robert’s natural daughter and first estate heir. The 30 September profile review now links the record-defined John and Anne to their existing profiles; the Emilia identification and independent verification of the trust remain qualified.

Overall conclusion

Robert Glasgow of Montgreenan held Mount Grenan and Sans Souci on St Vincent. Smith documents Houstoun & Co finance, wealth extracted from enslaved labour, the 1802 purchase of Montgreenan and construction of the later house c.1810–17.

The current WikiTree profile gives death on 19 April 1827 at Kilwinning. A related UCL successor entry calls him “d. 1828” while citing an October 1828 registration. The contemporary 1835 appeal report now supports death in 1827; the exact day still needs the Scottish papers. Do not substitute an 1828 registration for death.

Three further notices concern Robert Glasgow of Montgreenan. A 1785 Times notice appointing Robert Glasgow, formerly hospital mate in the West Indies, surgeon to the forces on St Vincent is probably him (probable, not strong): the St Andrews biographical register (from Johnston's Roll) gives Robert Glasgow M.D. 6 Dec 1779, hospital mate in the West Indies and staff surgeon St Vincent 1785, and Paterson's Ayrshire history says Robert of Montgreenan "gained a fortune in St Vincent's" and died at Mountgreenan House on 19 April 1827. A 1808 Ayr county meeting report names "Mr. Glasgow of Montgreenan" (strong). The 1835 appeal Allan v. Glasgow's Trustees concerns his 1818 entail; it identifies Anne, "Mrs Robertson Glasgow" (Glasgow-2874), as his natural daughter and heir and was brought by his heirs-at-law, the Allan and Smith sons of his sisters.

Marriage notice and father, 1 March 1802. The Caledonian Mercury, p.3 reports Robert of Montgreenan’s marriage at Dunlop-house on 22 February 1802 to Rachel Dunlop (Dunlop-2189), daughter of the late John Dunlop of Dunlop. John Dunlop-2144, 1707–1785, is a compatible checked profile: its public biography includes Rachel’s 17 May 1769 baptism to Mr Dunlop of Dunlop. This is a newspaper-confirmed father clause and a strong profile match; it supplies no mother. The maintained OPR citation gives 23 February. Keep both readings pending inspection of the register, rather than silently replacing the date.

Estate and civic role. The 11 September 1802 Mercury, p.1 lists Robert Glasgow, Esq. of Montgreenan among Ayrshire game licences issued between 27 July and 7 September. The 22 September 1806 Mercury, p.2 again lists him, covering 17 July–10 September, and names him as a gamekeeper’s principal. These establish use of the estate designation by the stated list dates, not a purchase date. The Morning Chronicle, 25 January 1808, p.2 reports the Ayr county meeting of 13 January on trial by jury in civil cases; he was represented by an authorised attendee, not necessarily present personally.

Family and settlement litigation, 1835. The Morning Post, 26 August 1835, p.4 reports the 25 August hearing of Hugh Allan v. Trustees of Robert Glasgow. It expressly calls Mrs Robertson Glasgow Robert’s natural daughter, first called to succession under his 1818 entail. This independent contemporary report supports the identification of Anne Glasgow-2874 as his daughter and estate heir; it does not name her mother. It reports Robert’s death in 1827, supporting that year without proving 19 April. It describes a supplementary entail and trust of 23 June 1821, later purchases and Seafield near Ayr, and the dispute over selling Seafield and reinvesting its price. These later deeds are distinct from the 1803 trust; its John and Emilia clauses remain uninspected.

The Morning Chronicle, 3 September 1835, p.4 reports the Wednesday judgment (2 September), prints settlement clauses and records that judgment below was reversed. Its heading appears to name Henry Allen, unlike the first report’s Hugh Allan. Retain that discrepancy until original court papers establish the name. Hugh Allan-8034, born 1768 to Anna Glasgow-3005 and Hugh Allan-8028, is a compatible candidate: the profiles place him as Robert’s nephew and he would be 67. This is not proof he was the appellant or of the precise heir-at-law relationship. The elder Hugh Allan-8028 has no recorded death but would be 109, making him a weaker candidate. No relationship or profile merge follows.

Probable: the medical career, St Vincent appointment and the later St Vincent fortune agree, but no record yet states in one place that the staff surgeon and the laird of Montgreenan are the same man.

The original Freeman's Journal, 2 September 1847, p. 4 reports two weddings at Paisley on 'the 25th ult' (25 August 1847, inferred): Lieutenant George Sherbrooke Airey RN to Anne, second daughter of the late Robert Glasgow, and Rev. George Drake to Charlotte Maria Cecilia, youngest daughter of the late Robert Glasgow of Montgreenan, Ayr. It names no mother and does not itself identify the father with any profile.

The father is probably Robert Robertson, later Glasgow (Robertson-30564), husband of this Robert's natural daughter Anne: a December 1827 notice reports a daughter born at Rome to 'Mrs Robertson Glasgow, of Montgreenan'. This Robert remains a weaker possible alternative: his 1827 death does not conflict with 'the late' in 1847, and no reviewed evidence definitively excludes him. Charlotte is a strong compatible match for Glasgow-3003 and Anne a possible match for Glasgow-3000.

The paragraph beneath that row in the same register still says that no live edit has been made, as does this file's "Recommended WikiTree update" section, written on 14 September 2026, before the row was changed.

The current WikiTree profile gives death on 19 April 1827 at Kilwinning. A related UCL successor entry calls him “d. 1828” while citing an October 1828 registration. The contemporary 1835 appeal report now supports death in 1827; the exact day still needs the Scottish papers. Do not substitute an 1828 registration for death.

[John Dunlop-2144](https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Dunlop-2144), 1707–1785, is a compatible checked profile: its public biography includes Rachel’s 17 May 1769 baptism to Mr Dunlop of Dunlop. This is a newspaper-confirmed father clause and a strong profile match; it supplies no mother. The maintained OPR citation gives **23 February**. Keep both readings pending inspection of the register, rather than silently replacing the date.

The original [Freeman's Journal, 2 September 1847, p. 4](https://www.newspapers.com/image/401331272/) reports two weddings at Paisley on 'the 25th ult' (25 August 1847, inferred): Lieutenant George Sherbrooke Airey RN to Anne, second daughter of the late Robert Glasgow, and Rev. George Drake to Charlotte Maria Cecilia, youngest daughter of the late Robert Glasgow of Montgreenan, Ayr. It names no mother and does not itself identify the father with any profile.

Unresolved — register status of the Montgreenan trust amendment, 7 October 2026

The WikiTree register (`surname-research/to-update.md`, section "Montgreenan trust and household — 10 September 2026", row for Glasgow-1076, updated 29 September 2026) marks the 1803-trust amendment "DONE — APPLIED LIVE 17 SEPTEMBER 2026 (additive)": exact trust bequests and archive references, Emilia distinguished from the unverified Amelia identification, and the 1827 death separated from the 1828 registration. The paragraph beneath that row in the same register still says that no live edit has been made, as does this file's "Recommended WikiTree update" section, written on 14 September 2026, before the row was changed.

The register therefore contradicts itself, and the live biography was not re-read for this note. A read-only check of the live biography should settle which statement is current; until then neither should be repeated as fact.
