Robert (Robertson) Glasgow

6 November 1775 – 27 January 1845

Kilwinning, Ayrshire, Scotland

Biography and research notes

- Freeman’s Journal and Daily Commercial Advertiser, 1847-09-02, p.4: the late Robert Glasgow, Esq., of Montgreenan, county Ayr (father of both brides) — strong match. Unique designation 'of Montgreenan', described as 'the late' in Sept 1847. Of the Montgreenan owners: Dr Robert Glasgow-1076 died in 1827 with no offspring (Wikipedia), so he is excluded. Robert Robertson of Prenderguest, son-in-law, inherited in 1828 and took the name Glasgow; the LBS claim names 'Robert Glasgow Esq. (late Robertson) and Anne his wife'. His son Robert Robertson-Glasgow inherited in 1845 and lived to 1860 (thepeerage), so he cannot be 'the late' in 1847. Only Robertson-30564 survives. 'Charlotte Maria Cecilia, youngest daughter of the late Robert Glasgow, Esq., of Montgreenan, county Ayr'. Both identities are strong. If the link is already confident, treat this as already_correct. • Glasgow-3003 — daughter of — Robertson-30564 (Robert Robertson Glasgow): research note only (WikiTree now: linked, unmarked). The style 'Mrs Robertson Glasgow' identifies the mother as the wife of Robert Robertson Glasgow (Robertson-30564, already her spouse on WikiTree); the notice does not name the father, so it supports but does not by itself state paternity. Convention: a birth notice reading 'Mrs X, of a daughter' normally means the child of Mr and Mrs X, so the owner may upgrade this link if that convention is accepted. It is kept as a research note because the father is not named. (Aberdeen Journal, and General Advertiser for the North of Scotland, 1827-12-19, p.4)
