Sarah (Glasgow) Kermode

Biography
Sarah's parents were Hugh and Margaret.
 
She was born about 1823-1826.
 She gave her age as 18 on the passenger log departing 1841; although sometimes people lied to meet immigration requirements. 

In 1842 age 18, Sarah sailed on the Margaret from Ireland for New South Wales, Australia. She came from "Gortin", County Tyrone; and her mother Margaret was still alive. She was a farm servant, Presbyterian; and engaged by J. Smith, Hunter Street. The character witnesses were illegible Glasgow of Gortin, and James Little of Gortreagh.

She passed away in 1894 in New South Wales

and is buried at Walcha General Cemetery.
Research Notes
Gortin
There are several places in Tyrone called Gortin, including:
* The village of Gortin, (P. Lower Bodoney), north of Omagh.
* The townland of Gortin, Derryloran near Cookstown.

Gortin, Derryloran was known to have a family of Glasgows, so Sarah could well have been from that place. In support of this, one of her character witnesses was James Little of Gortreagh -- and there is a townland Gortreagh, Derryloran which borders Gortin, Derryloran.

Parents
Dozens of ancestry-com user trees conflate Sarah with Sarah Glasgow (1824-1894) of Allegheny, PA, whose parents were also Hugh and Margaret. However, that Sarah appears in the 1850 US census so is clearly a different person to this Sarah who was in Australia. And therefore, the two Sarahs do not have the same parents.
