James Glasgow

Kirknewton, Linlithgowshire, Scotland

About James

James Glasgow, Edinburgh Castle clergy, 1737–1738: Compatible age and Scottish geography. No role or Castle connection established. These are prior public research findings, not independently re-inspected originals in this batch. A probable same-officeholder sequence is consolidated without identifying a WikiTree person. Glasgow-1140 is the leading possible candidate because prior public research describes a 1722 divinity student; that letter was not re-inspected here and supplies no Castle bridge. No relationship or life-date amendment follows.

What the records show

Source findings

James Glasgow, styled Clerk, is appointed chaplain to the garrison of Edinburgh Castle by a royal commission reported read in the presbytery. Full notice retained with Scotland section heading, Edinburgh dateline, preceding sentence, full appointment sentence and following paragraph start. Printed long-s glyph in Glasſgow is f-shaped and can produce OCR Glafgow; normalized surname reading Glasgow. 'Yesterday' refers to the Edinburgh Oct. 21 dateline; identity with the 1738 notice is not asserted. The 1737 and 1738 notices are a probable same-officeholder sequence, not a proved profile identity. Clerk is a clerical style, not evidence of a separate clerk occupation. Neither relative date is calculated from the newspaper issue date. The Daily Gazetteer, 1737-11-03, p.1

James Glasgow, probationer, is reported ordained minister of the Castle in an Edinburgh-datelined notice. Full Scotland context retained, including dateline and complete Glasgow ordination sentence. The printed long-s glyph in Glasſgow is f-shaped and can produce OCR Glafgow; normalized surname reading Glasgow. Relative 'Last Tuesday' belongs to the Edinburgh Feb. 16 report, not the issue publication date. This notice is not linked to the 1737 appointment or to a profile here. The 1737 and 1738 notices are a probable same-officeholder sequence, not a proved profile identity. Clerk is a clerical style, not evidence of a separate clerk occupation. Neither relative date is calculated from the newspaper issue date. The Daily Gazetteer, 1738-02-23, p.1
