Samuel Glasgow

Biography
Samuel was born about 1831 in County Tyrone, Ireland. He was the son of Samuel Glasgow, farmer; and as of 1855 was a merchant of Cookstown.

On 20 February 1855 at 2nd Moneymore Presbyterian, he married Fanny I. Cathcart of Cookstown, daughter of John Cathcart. Witnessed by S. L. Dobson and Jane Stanton(sp?)

She may have passed away in 1859.

On 9 July 1860 at the Frederick St. Wesleyan Chapel, Belfast, he (29) married Jane Woods (23), daughter of John Woods, mechanic. He was a widowed grocer, living at Buncrana, County Donegal; she was a spinster of Christopher St, Belfast. Witnessed by William Guard Paice and E. Cobain.

As of 1901 he was a Temperance Agent (whatever that is?), and a Methodist. He was visiting a household in Bernagh, Co.Tyrone.

He passed away 7 August 1902 at 113 Duncairn St, Belfast. He was married age 70. Informed by Alexander H R Hamilton, son-in-law, 52 Newington Ave.

He is buried at Belfast City Cemetery, plot H 302.
Research Notes
Samuel's death 1901 and Jane's death 1906 were informed by Alexander H. R. Hamilton, their son-in-law, so I think this marriage is correct despite his residence being Co. Donegal as of this marriage.

Samuel had 10 children (that we know of so far!) however, eight of those are known to have died young and/or unmarried. The descendants of daughter Florence Shaw are the only known line of descendants. I haven't found a record of where son William went. McNabb-412 11:59, 2 January 2023 (UTC)

Samuel Glasgow (abt.1792-1865) of Gortin, Derryloran (part of Cookstown) is a possible father; although there were also Samuel Glasgows at Killycurragh, just outside of Cookstown to the west.

Samuel Glasgow (-1857) of Killycurragh does have a daughter Adelaide as well, showing that name occurs in the family; although his will is available and does not mention a son Samuel.
