William Glasgow was born around 1799.<ref>Based on his death in January 1855 at the age of 55.</ref> He was from Killycurragh, near Cookstown, County Tyrone, where he served as a ruling elder in the First Cookstown Presbyterian Church before emigrating to the United States.<ref name="d"/>
An obituary in the ''Belfast Mercury'' notes: "January 21, at Sandusky City, State of Ohio, United States, Mr. William Glasgow, formerly of Killyenrugh, near Cookstown, aged 56 years. He was for many years (previous to his emigration) a ruling elder in the congregation of First Cookstown."
