Duplicate merge

Glasgow-4149 was merged into Glasgow-3338 on 27 September 2026. The 1665 St Cuthbert's baptism gives an Edinburgh-area candidate who would have been about 29 when a Robert Glasgow served Alexander Ainslie in neighbouring North Leith in 1694. The July receipt and October poll-tax entry identify the same adult by employer and business. Neither adult record names parents; connecting that adult to the baptised child is a qualified inference. The former birth estimate of about 1670 and the inferred North Leith birthplace are retained as research history, while the 1665 indexed baptism is the structured early date.

What the records show

Source findings — merged adult record
  • NRS GD112/15/59, item 24: Robert gave the 16 July 1694 bottle receipt in Ainslie's name.
  • NRS E70/4/10, image 11: Robert appears as a servant in Ainslie's North Leith household on 3 October 1694. These records do not call him a glassmaker.
  • FamilySearch baptism index, supported by the Scotland's People OPR locator below, names James Glasgow and Annapill Glasse as parents of the 1665 child.

Scotland’s People, Old Parish Registers, births and baptisms; exact surname Glasgow through 1700, 127 supplied results. ROBERT GLASGOW; indexed date 28/05/1665; St Cuthbert's; parish 685 / 2, reference 30 / 69. Parents/other exactly as indexed: JAMES GLASGOW/ANNAPILL GLASSE FR610 (FR610). Indexed gender: M.

Assessment: Matches the existing child-record account by indexed date, locality and recorded family. This row adds the complete index locator as supporting provenance; it does not establish a new event or relationship.

Original image not inspected for this batch. The combined collection’s date does not automatically establish a birthday. Names alone do not uniquely identify attached parents or connect a child with a later adult. An omitted parent or indexed gender U remains unspecified in this source.

Next action: No additional WikiTree update from this row; preserve any existing pending work.

Unresolved questions

Inspect the original 1665 baptism, 1694 poll-tax image and Ainslie papers for a direct identifier. The 1676 Glencorse Robert remains an alternative adult candidate, but has a weaker locality and age fit.
