Alexander's gravestone does not state his birth date directly. It records that he died on 4 December 1855, aged 69 years, 9 months and 8 days. That age calculates to a birth date of 26 February 1786. 

The calculated date conflicts with the reported birth of his presumed brother Hugh Glasgow on 25 July 1786. Hugh was also reportedly a twin. The conflict has not been resolved and may concern one of the birth dates, the stated sibling relationship, or the identification of one of the men.
