Biography

James Glasgow, Marsh creek, appears in a Carlisle names/address list reprinted in July–August 1795. The printed Marsh creek qualifier immediately accompanies James, not the next Andrew Givin. Repeated list entries do not establish repeated acts, collected mail, family, permanent residence or continued life. No common list heading or list date was found on the inspected pages; postal interpretation remains qualified. No existing profile is identified. Glasgow-3290, Glasgow-2868 and Glasgow-634 remain weak compatible comparisons without a Marsh creek bridge. Do not join this addressee to the Lancaster 1773 or North Carolina subjects solely by name.[1][2][3]

Research Notes

No existing profile is identified. Glasgow-3290, Glasgow-2868 and Glasgow-634 remain weak compatible comparisons without a Marsh creek bridge. Do not join this addressee to the Lancaster 1773 or North Carolina subjects solely by name.

Bounded approved QMD query for James Glasgow and Marsh returned no matching note; existing regional candidate dossiers/vitals checked. This is not an exhaustive duplicate search.

Estimated/uncertain deaths are not exact exclusions. Even a verified earlier death would not by itself disprove posthumous mail.

Glasgow-3290: Uncertain 1758 birth and uncertain 1789 death; compatible regional name-only comparison. A postal addressee can be deceased; no Marsh creek identity bridge. Glasgow-2868: Exact 1720 birth and estimated c.1784 death; weak chronology and regional comparison only, not an exact death exclusion or Marsh creek match. Glasgow-634: Adult chronology fits, but North Carolina office context does not identify this Marsh creek addressee.

Inspect Marsh Creek tax, land, probate and postal records and the original evidence behind candidate identities; seek a family identifier or signature.

No compatible WikiTree profile after a duplicate search; **READY TO CREATE** once the biography below is checked.

Marsh Creek is the south-central Pennsylvania settlement (then York County, now Adams County), and the entry gives only name and locality. Glasgow-2868 is recorded dead in January 1784 (Find a Grave memorial cited on Hartshorne-320) and is unlikely. Glasgow-3290 is recorded dead in 1789 (uncited) in Cecil County, Maryland; posthumous mail is conceivable but nothing ties him to Marsh Creek, so he is unlikely. Glasgow-634 was the sitting North Carolina Secretary of State, resident in Glasgow County and receiving mail at Raleigh in 1795 (groups 66180042 and 66180229): unlikely. Glasgow-2104 (James, b. 1780 Harford County, Maryland) would have been 15: unlikely. A WikiTree search for James Glasgow, Glasco, Glascoe and Glascow born 1700–1780 shows no Pennsylvania (York/Adams/Cumberland) James. A web search for James Glasgow at Marsh Creek, Hamiltonban or Cumberland Township found nothing. A profile draft is needed if he is to be represented, but this single address entry is too thin to found one alone. Next step: York County tax lists for Hamiltonban and Cumberland townships, 1790s.

- [Kline's Carlisle Weekly Gazette, 1795-07-15, p.3](https://www.newspapers.com/image/1033874474/): James Glasgow, Marsh Creek, appears in a Carlisle names-and-addresses list reprinted in July–August 1795. No WikiTree profile fits: the Cecil County Jameses are recorded dead before 1795, and the North Carolina Secretary of State lived elsewhere. A profile draft is needed only if further records identify him. - [Find a Grave memorial 218616666, James Glasgow (1720–Jan 1784), Cecil County (user-contributed)](https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/218616666/james_glasgow)
