Biography

Robert Glasgow is listed as son of Andrew Glasgow, miller at Calder, in an Edinburgh magistrates’ notice dated 28 November 1772. The notice offers one guinea for discovery within the city/liberties of listed persons previously banished or bound to leave. The printed father–son statement is documentary family evidence; it does not prove a particular robbery conviction, apprehension, reward payment or identity with the 1767 prisoner. Neither existing Wiki Tree profile is identified. The notice explicitly names Robert’s father Andrew. Compatible existing Robert and Andrew profiles remain possible assignments only. Robert-1445’s tree-only father James and sibling Andrew-3052 are unverified leads; no parent replacement follows from identifying only the documentary family. Calder alone does not distinguish East from West Calder.[1][2]

Research Notes

The notice explicitly names Robert’s father Andrew. Compatible existing Robert and Andrew profiles remain possible assignments only. Robert-1445’s tree-only father James and sibling Andrew-3052 are unverified leads; no parent replacement follows from identifying only the documentary family. Calder alone does not distinguish East from West Calder.

Two separately inspected issues preserve the same family statement. No individual bridge joins this family to the 1767 prisoner.

Public tree parent/sibling links are not corroboration and not concrete exclusions. Andrew-1333’s before-1747 birth is an upper bound, not an exact birth in 1747.

Glasgow-1445: Uncertain birth before 1735 and Kirknewton/East Calder location fit a Robert active by 1772. His current father James-1547 is tree-only; do not treat it as a documentary contradiction. His tree sibling Andrew-3052 likewise does not establish or disprove the named father. Glasgow-3052: Public vitals give uncertain birth in 1720 at Kirknewton/East Calder, allowing adult fatherhood in 1772. The profile has no recorded miller occupation or proved relationship to the newspaper Robert; its sibling relationship to Glasgow-1445 is tree-derived only. Glasgow-1333: Uncertain birth before 11 Jan 1747 and West Calder location are chronologically possible for a father of an adult/younger Robert by 1772, but this is only a broad place-name match. The profile's current father is John-81, tree-only; no miller evidence is recorded.

Seek parish, land, kirk-session, or occupational records naming the miller Andrew at Calder and his children; check Edinburgh records for the listed Robert.

Record bridge between the two Edinburgh notices: the 21 Dec 1767 sentence banishes 'Robert Glasgow, George Garnock, Niel M'Kinnon and Donald M'Donald' (clip OCR), and the magistrates' list of banished persons of 28 Nov 1772 names, among others, 'Neil Mackinnon, son of Normand Mackinnon chairbearer', 'George Garnoch, son of John Garnoch serjeant in the 44th regiment' and 'Robert Glasgow, son of Andrew Glasgow miller at Calder' (clip OCR). Three of the four 1767 co-convicts reappear together as banished persons, so the 1767 prisoner is (probably) Robert son of Andrew Glasgow, miller at Calder. WikiTree: Glasgow-1445 (bapt. Kirknewton & East Calder by 13 Feb 1735) is christened to a father James per its cited baptism - conflicts with father Andrew (unlikely). Glasgow-2473 (bapt. Edinburgh 7 Jan 1703) is son of James Glasgow, shoemaker - conflicts (unlikely). Glasgow-1229 (Livingston, son of Abraham) - conflicts. No WikiTree Robert is a son of an Andrew. New profile draft warranted (Robert, son of Andrew Glasgow, miller at Calder; convicted of theft and banished from Edinburgh 1767).

Robert is the 1767 theft convict; neither he nor a miller Andrew at Calder can be matched to a WikiTree profile. - [Newspapers.com original image 395731868](https://www.newspapers.com/image/395731868/) - [Newspapers.com original image 395727807](https://www.newspapers.com/image/395727807/)
