Biography
A notice dated North Susquehanna hundred, Cecil county, Maryland, 10 February 1786 offers a 260-acre plantation for public vendue on 10 March, with immediate possession given by Robert Glasgow and Joshua Hartshorn. Two issues repeat one proposed sale. Robert’s precise role is unstated: owner, agent or another participant is not resolved. No completed sale or relationship to Hartshorn is proved. Glasgow-395 is the strongest bounded regional/chronological lead, with no plantation, Hartshorn or personal identity bridge. Glasgow-2425 remains a weak possible namesake. Glasgow-1143’s estimated c. 1772 death is a material chronology tension, not a certain exclusion without its underlying source. No joining to the Scottish Roberts is warranted.[1][2]
Research Notes
Glasgow-395 is the strongest bounded regional/chronological lead, with no plantation, Hartshorn or personal identity bridge. Glasgow-2425 remains a weak possible namesake. Glasgow-1143’s estimated c. 1772 death is a material chronology tension, not a certain exclusion without its underlying source. No joining to the Scottish Roberts is warranted.
Bounded approved public-profile/QMD check, not exhaustive external research. Joshua Hartshorn is a contextual co-named participant, not a proved relative.
Estimated dates are candidate context, not newly proved newspaper life dates.
Glasgow-395: Public profile estimates Robert's birth c. 1750 and death c. 1800, with Harford County, Maryland location; age and regional context make him the best catalogue lead for a 1786 Cecil County appearance. No checked evidence ties him to the plantation, Hartshorn, or Cecil County. Glasgow-2425: Estimated birth c. 1724 in Ireland and death place United States leave the chronology possible, but the profile gives no Maryland residence or relevant occupation. This is a broad, weak candidate only. Glasgow-1143: Estimated birth c. 1710 in County Antrim and estimated death c. 1772; the stated death estimate predates the 1786 notice and is a material conflict if accurate. Since it is estimated and no underlying source was checked here, retain as an unlikely lead rather than treating it as a certain exclusion.
Inspect Maryland land, tax, probate, and newspaper records for Robert Glasgow and Joshua Hartshorn in Cecil/Harford Counties around 1786; establish the named Robert's role and life chronology.

WikiTree searchPerson for Joshua Hartshorn and Joshua Hartshorne returned only two Norwich, Connecticut men (Hartshorn-659 b. 1748, Hartshorn-1373 b. 1710), with no Maryland connection. The 1790 Cecil County census transcription shows Hartshorn households (Maj. John and Thomas Hartshorn) in the county, consistent with a local family. A profile draft is not recommended from this bare business notice: he is not a Glasgow, and the notice states no kinship.
- [The Pennsylvania Gazette, 1786-02-15, p.1](https://www.newspapers.com/image/41024006/): Robert Glasgow and Joshua Hartshorn were to give possession of a 260-acre plantation in North Susquehanna Hundred, Cecil County, Maryland, offered at vendue in March 1786. Neither man can be identified on WikiTree. The joint Glasgow–Hartshorn role is a research lead pointing to the Cecil County family of James Glasgow (Glasgow-2868) and Ann Hartshorne (Hartshorne-320), but it is not a relationship. - [USGenWeb Census Project, Maryland 1790 federal census index, file H (transcription)](https://www.us-census.org/pub/usgenweb/census/md/1790/index-h.txt)
