Biography
William Glasgow, Cecil County, is listed among letters remaining in the Philadelphia post office. Alphabetical postal-letter list, not a roster of residents or an advertisement. The printed long-s glyph in Glaſgow is the f-shaped character that can yield OCR Glafgow; the normalized surname reading is Glasgow. Cecil County immediately follows this entry. This is a distinct issue-page occurrence; no identity link to other Williams is inferred. Postal addressee, not proof of continuous residence, age, occupation, family, or identity across these issues.[1]
William Glasgow is listed among letters remaining in the Philadelphia post office in February 1763. Alphabetical postal-letter list. The printed long-s glyph in Glaſgow is f-shaped and can yield OCR Glafgow; normalized surname reading Glasgow. The excerpt preserves nearby punctuation and entries: Pennsylvania follows James Gillispie, not an independently assigned locality for William Glasgow. No identity link to other entries is inferred. Postal addressee, not proof of continuous residence, age, occupation, family, or identity across these issues.[2]
William Glasgow is listed among letters remaining in the Philadelphia post office in October 1765. Alphabetical postal-letter list; page 4 retains the list-purpose heading and G-section context. The printed long-s glyph in Glaſgow is f-shaped and can yield OCR Glafgow; normalized surname reading Glasgow. No locality or identity beyond the immediate printed sequence is assigned to William. Postal addressee, not proof of continuous residence, age, occupation, family, or identity across these issues.[3]
William Glasgow is separately listed in the Charles-Town, Maryland, post-office letters notice headed 1 October 1771, beside an entry for John Glasgow of West Nottingham. William has no separately established locality in this line. Sydney George is the next named addressee, with Cecil County attached to Sydney. Colisting does not prove kinship with John, a continuous Maryland residence, letter collection or that William was still alive.[4]
Research Notes
These are three independently retained entries, consolidated as an unresolved name study. They may concern different men. No continuous Cecil County residence or identity with the 1775 Maryland William Glascoe, Lady Forbes master, or an Irish William is proved. A fourth retained entry in the 1771 Charles-Town list remains a compatible unresolved name occurrence, without a bridge to the earlier entries or the separately listed John.
Local public catalogue comparison only; no exhaustive external duplicate check.
Glasgow-1430, 1124 and 1505 remain weak chronological comparisons. A child can receive letters; no adult occupation is stated.
Later Maryland terms in candidate dossier notes arose from an earlier newspaper comparison and are not independent residence evidence.
In 1763 Pennsylvania follows James Gillispie; in 1765 Forks of Delaware accompanies William Greenlee. Neither is assigned as William Glasgow’s address.
Glasgow-4101: Birth before 12 June 1733, Dundonald, permits these dates; no Cecil County or postal identity bridge. Glasgow-4120: Birth before 3 February 1723, Irvine, permits these dates; no postal identity bridge. Glasgow-3326: Uncertain 1730 birth, Kilwaughter/Larne, is compatible; no postal or Cecil County bridge. Glasgow-2426: Estimated 1735 birth and later United States context are unproved profile data; no postal identity bridge. The Moneymore County Galway field is disputed.

Charles-Town is the Cecil County, Maryland town at the head of the Chesapeake. MSA's Samuel Glasgow biography (SC 3520-17195), working from Cecil County probate, lists a William among the children of James Glasgow Sr. (d. 1784) and Ann of Cecil County (siblings Samuel, Ezekiel d. 1780, Adam d. 1782-83, James, Elizabeth Mary, Hannah) - the same family WikiTree has under Glasgow-2868/Hartshorne-320, but WikiTree has no William in it. That William is the most plausible addressee at a Cecil County post office in 1771, but the letter list gives no relative, so identity is possible only. No WikiTree William Glasgow/Glasco/Glascow/Glascoe has any Maryland presence (duplicate searches 1700-1765); the Scottish/Irish Williams (4101, 4120, 2426; 3326 documented in Larne 1772/1783) are namesakes only.
- [Maryland Gazette, 1771-10-24, p.3](https://www.newspapers.com/image/41041559/): Charles-Town (Cecil County), Maryland letter list, 1 October 1771: John Glasgow in West Nottingham, Chester County, and a separate William Glasgow. Two Johns were taxed in West Nottingham in 1771 (landholder and inmate), so John is only possibly Glasgow-2871; Glasgow-2870 (d. 1769) is now unlikely. William has no WikiTree profile; the Cecil County William named among the children of James Glasgow Sr. (d. 1784) in Cecil probate is a plausible but unproved identity. - [Maryland State Archives Biographical Series, Samuel Glasgow, MSA SC 3520-17195 (Cecil County Glasgow family from probate)](https://msa.maryland.gov/megafile/msa/speccol/sc3500/sc3520/017100/017195/html/17195bio.html)
