William Glasgow

Current conclusion

William is strongly supported as a son of James Glasgow and Sarah Murray. He is
also the only one of their four recorded children with a credible later trail:

- probably the William Glasgow among the Larne petitioners in April 1772;
- possibly the William Glasgow of Larne in the 1783 Connor probate index; and
- reportedly buried on the same St Cedma's stone as James Glasgow, born about
  1775.

None of these later items names William's wife or states a relationship. The
1783 occurrence cannot yet be distinguished from the older Larne William. The
shared-stone report is especially useful, but the chronology contradicts itself
by assigning the same later James to the older William elsewhere. The actual
inscription is required before James-3986 is moved or added as William's son.

No wife or proved child of William has been identified.

Exclusions

- Memorial 62131's William of Larne was already an adjoining occupier in March
  1736 and cannot be this six-year-old child; it belongs to William-1505.
- The 1804 New Street lease and 1816 probate entry belong to a later William.
- William-3962 of County Tyrone and William-2426 of the Moneymore/United States
  line are distinct people.

Remaining bridge

The decisive items are the complete St Cedma's inscription and the 1783 probate
material. PRONI `MIC/1B/6` should also be searched for William's marriage and
children before the register series ends in 1769.

Batch evidence update — 21 September 2026

The 1783 Connor probate material is lost and the surviving index supplies no heirs, executor or date of death; it is not retrievable as a will. Independent church, estate or deed evidence is required to distinguish this William from William-1505. A manuscript-checked 12 May 1772 Larne deed names Wm Glasgow as a witness, but no age, occupation or relative assigns him to either man; it was registered 9 November 1784 and does not prove survival then.
