Summary of the research

Overall conclusion

William is the only child with a credible later trail. The chronology identifies him as the probable William Glasgow who signed the Larne petition in 1772. A probate index then names William Glasgow of Larne in 1783, but it does not give an age or relatives and an older William was also living locally. The chronology also reports that James Glasgow, born about 1775, shared a St Cedma's stone with William born 1730. That is a genuine descendant lead, but the same page elsewhere assigns the stone to William born about 1708. Until the inscription is recovered, it does not prove whether James was William's son, grandson or another relative.

The four child profiles are therefore not empty because the relationships are weak; they are dead ends because the surviving public transcription stops at their births. The original register, the full 1783 probate material and the unrecovered memorial are the records capable of extending the line.

The incomplete Registry of Deeds name index produced no later deed naming Jean, Helen or Christian and no identifying later William deed. This is not a negative finding because married daughters would usually be indexed under their husbands' surnames and the volunteer index is incomplete.

Identity assessment — "James Glasgow junior" in the 1738/9 lease, 6 October 2026

"Jas Glasgow Junr" is one of the three lives in William Agnew's lease of Ballykeel to Robert Glasgow, dated 13 February 1738 (1738/9 by modern reckoning; Registry of Deeds memorial 74015, re-read on the saved register images). "Junior" most naturally distinguishes him from another James Glasgow known to the parties, usually a living one, but it does not prove one and it states no relationship. The memorial names no other James.

The officer James Glasgow of Kilwaughter was dead by then ("deceased 1726"; will indexed 1727). The attested candidates for an older James alive in 1738-44 are James Glasgow-1504 (married 1727, children 1728-1740 in the derivative register chronology, residence unrecorded) and James Glasgow of Larne, who took a townparks lease on 30 August 1744 (PRONI D2977/3A/4/81/116, known from a catalogue line only); they may be one man. The word is not evidence of kinship between James-1504 and Robert Glasgow-1143.

Identity assessment — James Glasgowe at Altilevelly, Raloo, 1747, 7 October 2026

The reviewed draft reports a James Glasgowe at Altilevelly in Raloo parish on a 1747 map, citing the derivative online chronology already used here for the 1727 marriage (its reference is labelled "entries for 1727–1740", so the 1747 attribution needs checking). Raloo Presbyterians attended the Larne congregation, so this may be the same James (inference), but the map entry as reported gives no age or family, and the map itself has not been identified or inspected. Grade: possible same-name occurrence only.

Birth: about 1706 or earlier (estimate): he married in August 1727 (derivative chronology) and is assumed to have been 21 or over; the present "about 1707" makes him a groom of 20. His wife Sarah Murray (Murray-20395, shown as born about 1710) is better put at about 1711 or earlier: married August 1727, assumed at least 16.

- The incomplete Registry of Deeds name index produced no later deed naming
  Jean, Helen or Christian and no identifying later William deed. This is not a
  negative finding because married daughters would usually be indexed under
  their husbands' surnames and the volunteer index is incomplete.

1. PRONI `MIC/1B/6`: inspect every marriage from about 1745 to 1769 for Jean,
   Helen/Hellen and Christian, and every child entry naming William as father.
2. Obtain the complete St Cedma's inscription or photograph said to contain
   William born 1730 and James born about 1775.
3. Check the Connor 1783 probate entry and any surviving bond, grant or abstract
   for relatives, occupation and residence.
4. Inspect the 1744 lease and later assignments or endorsements for named lives,

Identity assessment — "James Glasgow junior" in the 1738/9 lease, 6 October 2026

"Jas Glasgow Junr" is one of the three lives in William Agnew's lease of Ballykeel to Robert Glasgow, dated 13 February 1738 (1738/9 by modern reckoning; Registry of Deeds memorial 74015, re-read on the saved register images). "Junior" most naturally distinguishes him from another James Glasgow known to the parties, usually a living one, but it does not prove one and it states no relationship. The memorial names no other James.

The officer James Glasgow of Kilwaughter was dead by then ("deceased 1726"; will indexed 1727). The attested candidates for an older James alive in 1738-44 are James Glasgow-1504 (married 1727, children 1728-1740 in the derivative register chronology, residence unrecorded) and James Glasgow of Larne, who took a townparks lease on 30 August 1744 (PRONI D2977/3A/4/81/116, known from a catalogue line only); they may be one man. The word is not evidence of kinship between James-1504 and Robert Glasgow-1143.

Recommended correction — vital dates, 6 October 2026

**Birth: about 1706 or earlier** (estimate): he married in August 1727 (derivative chronology) and is assumed to have been 21 or over; the present "about 1707" makes him a groom of 20. His wife Sarah Murray (Murray-20395, shown as born about 1710) is better put at **about 1711 or earlier**: married August 1727, assumed at least 16.

Identity assessment — James Glasgowe at Altilevelly, Raloo, 1747, 7 October 2026

The reviewed draft reports a James Glasgowe at Altilevelly in Raloo parish on a 1747 map, citing the derivative online chronology already used here for the 1727 marriage (its reference is labelled "entries for 1727–1740", so the 1747 attribution needs checking). Raloo Presbyterians attended the Larne congregation, so this may be the same James (inference), but the map entry as reported gives no age or family, and the map itself has not been identified or inspected. Grade: possible same-name occurrence only.
