Reported events, notices, advertisements and letters. OCR matches need visual checking; place names, vessels and matches to other surnames are excluded from Glasgow surname evidence.
Availability depends on the particular repository, locality, date range and record series. We have not established complete coverage for this collection. Follow each provider link for its holdings and access terms; a missing result is not proof of absence.
Reading the evidence: an index, transcript, provider search page and original image are different sources. A recorded image link does not mean its reading or identity match is confirmed. Inspect the assessment and source page before changing a family relationship. Repository guides checked 4 October 2026.

How to read these notices
Cards lead with the person named in the notice; profile candidates are assessed separately. Birth cutoffs labelled “by c.” are estimates, usually assuming an adult professional was at least 18; open the birth note for the basis. Event groups are broad navigation aids built from each notice’s record type. A relationship filter identifies family wording in the notice, not a proved match to a WikiTree family.

What the notice says
James Glasgow, probationer, is reported ordained minister of the Castle in an Edinburgh-datelined notice.
Evidence and identity limits
Full Scotland context retained, including dateline and complete Glasgow ordination sentence. The printed long-s glyph in Glasſgow is f-shaped and can produce OCR Glafgow; normalized surname reading Glasgow. Relative 'Last Tuesday' belongs to the Edinburgh Feb. 16 report, not the issue publication date. This notice is not linked to the 1737 appointment or to a profile here. The 1737 and 1738 notices are a probable same-officeholder sequence, not a proved profile identity. Clerk is a clerical style, not evidence of a separate clerk occupation. Neither relative date is calculated from the newspaper issue date. Identity review (6 October 2026): 1738 report that James Glasgow, probationer, was ordained minister of the Castle 'last Tuesday', which is 14 Feb 1738 exactly as in Fasti. He is the same man as the 1737 appointee: Glasgow-1140, strong.
[b. c. 1700-03-17; d. ?] · ordinand, minister of Edinburgh CastleWhy this candidate?
Fasti vol. 1: 'ord. 14th Feb. 1738'. The Edinburgh report dated Thursday 16 Feb 1738 (Old Style) says 'last Tuesday', and 14 Feb 1738 Julian was a Tuesday, so the date and office agree exactly. Fasti vol. 3 (Kilbirnie) names 'James, min. of Edinburgh Castle' as the son of Rev. John Glasgow and Margaret Scott, which is Glasgow-1140's baptism (Kilbirnie, 17 Mar 1700). The full argument and competitor eliminations are in group 1142270617.
