Reported events, notices, advertisements and letters. OCR matches need visual checking; place names, vessels and matches to other surnames are excluded from Glasgow surname evidence.
Availability depends on the particular repository, locality, date range and record series. We have not established complete coverage for this collection. Follow each provider link for its holdings and access terms; a missing result is not proof of absence.
Reading the evidence: an index, transcript, provider search page and original image are different sources. A recorded image link does not mean its reading or identity match is confirmed. Inspect the assessment and source page before changing a family relationship. Repository guides checked 4 October 2026.

How to read these notices
Cards lead with the person named in the notice; profile candidates are assessed separately. Birth cutoffs labelled “by c.” are estimates, usually assuming an adult professional was at least 18; open the birth note for the basis. Event groups are broad navigation aids built from each notice’s record type. A relationship filter identifies family wording in the notice, not a proved match to a WikiTree family.

What the notice says
Hugh and John Henderson advertise prunes, French plums, almonds and other goods arrived per the William, Captain Glasgow, from Bordeaux; notice dated 5 December 1792.
Evidence and identity limits
Repeated Henderson advertisement dated 5 December 1792. The William is the vessel; this notice supplies only Captain Glasgow’s surname. Continuity with the separately named 1792 master is probable, not proved. The later issue date does not date another arrival. Identity review (6 October 2026): Northern Star 15–26 Dec 1792 (7 copies): Hugh & John Henderson goods per the William, Captain Glasgow, from Bordeaux. Same captain cluster.
[b. c. 1763; d. c. 1816] · master of the vessel WilliamWhy this candidate?
Captain surname only; William is the vessel. Continuity with the separately named master Wm. Glasgow of the Belfast brig William is probable (same brig, Belfast base, same trades). Profile assignment: Glasgow-3324 is possible only, as argued in group 72014483.

What the notice says
William Glasgow, Kildress delegate and subsequent chairman; meeting 16 January 1793.
Evidence and identity limits
Candidate Glasgow-2915; no father or wife in notice. Identity review (6 October 2026): Northern Star 23 and 30 Jan 1793: William Glasgow, delegate for Kildress (Co. Tyrone), later chairman, at the meeting of 16 Jan 1793. He is an adult of the Kildress/Cookstown district. Glasgow-2915 (William of Cookstown, wife from Ballynasollus, Kildress) remains the leading but only possible profile. The notice names no relatives.
[b. c. 1760; d. ?] · delegate and chairman of a parish meetingWhy this candidate?
The notice establishes an adult William Glasgow acting for Kildress parish in Jan 1793. Glasgow-2915 (William, reported b. 1760, died Cookstown; spouse Mitchell-48576, Margaret Mitchell 'of Ballynasollus, Kildress'; sons born 1799 Tyrone, 1804, and 1815 at Killycurragh, Derryloran) fits the age and the Kildress/Derryloran district. However, his family links rest on a MyHeritage tree, and the project's findings say no primary record yet proves them. The 1796 Flax Growers' list for Tyrone has only one William of the surname: 'Glasco, William, Derryloran' (the parish next to Kildress). That fits a local William in the 1790s, but it is not in Kildress itself and does not bridge to any profile. O

What the notice says
William Glasgow and Hugh Faulkner appointed delegates from the 16 January Kildress meeting; William later takes the chair and signs the thanks resolution.
Evidence and identity limits
Original inspected. Repeats the known 23 January report; candidate Glasgow-2915 remains compatible but unproved. Identity review (6 October 2026): Northern Star 26 Jan 1793: William Glasgow and Hugh Faulkner appointed delegates at the Kildress meeting of 16 Jan 1793; William takes the chair and signs the thanks resolution. This is the same event as group 72019090, with the same conclusion: Glasgow-2915 possible only.
[b. c. 1760; d. ?] · delegate and chairmanWhy this candidate?
Same man and meeting as group 72019090. Glasgow-2915 is compatible by age and district, but his own family and residence evidence is unsourced (MyHeritage), and nothing in the notice gives a townland, age or relative. The 1796 Tyrone flax list has one William Glasco, in Derryloran, as a collateral lead.

What the notice says
Shipping intelligence says the William, Captain Glasgow, belonging to Belfast, sailed from Bordeaux on the 3rd instant; an embargo order from Paris arrived there the following day, detaining four British and thirty-three Dutch vessels.
Evidence and identity limits
The original reports an embargo, not capture of the William. The account does not explicitly say whether this vessel was among those detained after departure. The 3rd instant is relative to the report; no new exact voyage day is assigned. Captain forename unstated; continuity with the named 1792 master remains probable. Identity review (6 October 2026): Northern Star 20 Feb 1793: the William, Captain Glasgow, belonging to Belfast, sailed from Bordeaux on the 3rd just before the French embargo. This confirms a Belfast-owned vessel, not the captain's residence. Same captain cluster.
[b. c. 1763; d. c. 1816] · master of the William, belonging to BelfastWhy this candidate?
Captain surname only; William is the vessel. Continuity with the separately named master Wm. Glasgow of the Belfast brig William is probable (same brig, Belfast base, same trades). Profile assignment: Glasgow-3324 is possible only, as argued in group 72014483.

What the notice says
For Newcastle and Philadelphia: the Hope, master Abner Lowell; freight or passage contact Mr. James Glasco, Omagh. Notice dated Londonderry, 25 April 1793, signed Robert Burnside.
Evidence and identity limits
Named Omagh business contact, probably the 1786 publican. He is not stated to be a passenger or emigrant. The 11 and 18 May copies carry the same maintained notice reading; the 25 May copy adds a sailing delay and remains distinct. All profile candidates are possible, with no proved connection. Identity review (6 October 2026): Northern Star 11 and 18 May 1793: the Hope (Abner Lowell master), Londonderry for Newcastle and Philadelphia; freight or passage enquiries to Mr. James Glasco, Omagh (notice signed by Robert Burnside, Londonderry, 25 Apr 1793). Very probably the 1786 Omagh publican. Same identity conclusion as group 1050075355: no existing profile is preferred, and a new profile draft is recommended.

What the notice says
Shipping intelligence names William Glasgow as master of the Jean, from Belfast, arrived safe at Oporto on the 5th instant and expected ready to sail in twenty-one days.
Evidence and identity limits
Jean is a different vessel from the brig William. Same named master, Belfast and Oporto support compatible continuity, not a proved identity or vessel renaming. Expected departure is not a completed voyage. Identity review (6 October 2026): Northern Star 21 Sep 1793: William Glasgow, master of the Jean, from Belfast, arrived at Oporto. Same name, port and trade as the brig William master. Continuity is probable but the vessel is different; no profile proved.
[b. c. 1763; d. c. 1816] · master of the Jean (from Belfast)Why this candidate?
Named-master notice: compatible with the Belfast captain Wm. Glasgow of the brig William (and of the Jean, 1793-94). Profile assignment: Glasgow-3324 (William of Larne, c.1763-1816) is possible only. It rests solely on an inherited family-chronology suggestion; a 1804 Larne deed calls him a farmer; and no residence, owner or kin record bridges him to the captain.
