Reported events, notices, advertisements and letters. OCR matches need visual checking; place names, vessels and matches to other surnames are excluded from Glasgow surname evidence.
Availability depends on the particular repository, locality, date range and record series. We have not established complete coverage for this collection. Follow each provider link for its holdings and access terms; a missing result is not proof of absence.
Reading the evidence: an index, transcript, provider search page and original image are different sources. A recorded image link does not mean its reading or identity match is confirmed. Inspect the assessment and source page before changing a family relationship. Repository guides checked 4 October 2026.

How to read these notices
Cards lead with the person named in the notice; profile candidates are assessed separately. Birth cutoffs labelled “by c.” are estimates, usually assuming an adult professional was at least 18; open the birth note for the basis. Event groups are broad navigation aids built from each notice’s record type. A relationship filter identifies family wording in the notice, not a proved match to a WikiTree family.

What the notice says
Dr Robert Glasgow at Loudoun is listed among subscribers after an Ayrshire heritors’ meeting.
Evidence and identity limits
The issue is dated 9 April 1793; the original does not establish the meeting date or that the listed assessment was paid. Loudoun is printed as the person’s location/designation. Glasgow-1076 is a probable candidate for the exact Montgreenan designation, consistent with a prior independently reviewed 1802 record. The 1785 surgeon and 1793 Loudoun doctor are compatible earlier contexts; their identity with him is inferred, not explicitly linked. No family relationship is proved. Identity review (6 October 2026): April 1793 Ayrshire heritors' subscription list: 'Dr Robert Glasgow at Loudoun'. Probably Dr Robert Glasgow, later of Montgreenan (Glasgow-1076), the year before he bought Montgreenan.
[b. before 1747-10-15; d. 1827-04-19] · Ayrshire heritor / subscriberWhy this candidate?
Name + 'Dr' + Ayrshire landed status + date. The subscribers are Ayrshire heritors paying 'in lieu of their assessments by valuation', so Dr Robert held valued land in Ayrshire in 1793. Robert Glasgow of Montgreenan was a physician (UCL LBS 'Dr Robert Glasgow'; Montgreenan histories 'the doctor') who had made a St Vincent fortune, and Paterson says he bought Mountgreenan from John Bowman in 1794. The other Dr Robert in the family, his father Robert-1075 (surgeon at Kilbirnie), died in 1766. No other Dr Robert Glasgow is known in Ayrshire in 1793. The Loudoun address itself is not explained, which keeps this at probable. A new source supports the 'Dr': the St Andrews Biographical Register rec
Identified by rank as Captain-Lieutenant and promoted to Captain in the Royal Regiment of Artillery, vice Wright.
Birth estimate / source
Age is not printed; inferred only as an adult lower bound from the stated professional role (artillery officer), assuming age 18 or older by the 1793 issue year.

What the notice says
An Office of Ordnance notice names Captain-Lieutenant George Glasgow to be Captain in the Royal Regiment of Artillery, vice Wright.
Evidence and identity limits
Published 5 October 1793. Original Office of Ordnance heading reads 25 September; the parallel Observer notice reads 27 September. Retain both printed dates without asserting two independent promotions or inventing a precise commission day. Exact name and artillery context with progressive reported ranks support a provisional career study; individual continuity across the 22-year interval remains unproved. No checked existing profile is identified. The possible later chronological match George-1529 does not prove the early lieutenant’s identity. The 1774 unassigned Second Lieutenant notice remains a separate subject. Identity review (6 October 2026): Oct 1793: Captain-Lieutenant George Glasgow to be Captain, Royal Artillery, vice Wright (Ordnance 25 Sept). This is Lt-Gen George Glasgow RA (DCB: captain 25 Sept 1793); no WikiTree profile. No compatible WikiTree profile after a duplicate search for: George Glasgow (Captain-Lieutenant to Captain, Royal Artillery).
