Reported events, notices, advertisements and letters. OCR matches need visual checking; place names, vessels and matches to other surnames are excluded from Glasgow surname evidence.
Availability depends on the particular repository, locality, date range and record series. We have not established complete coverage for this collection. Follow each provider link for its holdings and access terms; a missing result is not proof of absence.
Reading the evidence: an index, transcript, provider search page and original image are different sources. A recorded image link does not mean its reading or identity match is confirmed. Inspect the assessment and source page before changing a family relationship. Repository guides checked 4 October 2026.

How to read these notices
Cards lead with the person named in the notice; profile candidates are assessed separately. Birth cutoffs labelled “by c.” are estimates, usually assuming an adult professional was at least 18; open the birth note for the basis. Event groups are broad navigation aids built from each notice’s record type. A relationship filter identifies family wording in the notice, not a proved match to a WikiTree family.

What the notice says
Robert Glasgow, Esq. of Montgreenan, is named in a lodged claim for enrolment on Ayr’s roll of freeholders.
Evidence and identity limits
Issue dated 6 August; notice is dated Ayr, 3 August 1799. It reports a claim before the forthcoming Michaelmas head-court, not acceptance or completed enrolment. Glasgow-1076 is a probable candidate for the exact Montgreenan designation, consistent with a prior independently reviewed 1802 record. The 1785 surgeon and 1793 Loudoun doctor are compatible earlier contexts; their identity with him is inferred, not explicitly linked. No family relationship is proved. Identity review (6 October 2026): Aug 1799: Robert Glasgow, Esq. of Montgreenan, lodges a claim to be enrolled as a freeholder of Ayrshire. Glasgow-1076, strong; shows he was 'of Montgreenan' before 1802.
[b. before 1747-10-15; d. 1827-04-19] · claimant for enrolment as freeholderWhy this candidate?
Unique estate designation 'of Montgreenan' + Ayrshire + date; only one Robert Glasgow held Montgreenan (Paterson: bought from John Bowman in 1794; died at Mountgreenan House 19 Apr 1827). The 1799 claim contradicts UCL's 'estate purchased 1802' and supports Paterson's 1794.
