Coverage, survival & limitations

Availability depends on the particular repository, locality, date range and record series. We have not established complete coverage for this collection. Follow each provider link for its holdings and access terms; a missing result is not proof of absence.

Reading the evidence: an index, transcript, provider search page and original image are different sources. A recorded image link does not mean its reading or identity match is confirmed. Inspect the assessment and source page before changing a family relationship. Repository guides checked 4 October 2026.

How to read these notices

Cards lead with the person named in the notice; profile candidates are assessed separately. Birth cutoffs labelled “by c.” are estimates, usually assuming an adult professional was at least 18; open the birth note for the basis. Event groups are broad navigation aids built from each notice’s record type. A relationship filter identifies family wording in the notice, not a proved match to a WikiTree family.

What the notice says

Samuel Glasgow is listed under Washington in the names of Pennsylvania justices of the peace in commission on 1 September 1791.

Evidence and identity limits

The separate saved heading establishes office and date. Glasgow-3175 is the strongest contextual candidate through his uncertain Hanover Township, Washington County death locality. Identity, tenure and family are not proved. Identity review (6 October 2026): Samuel Glasgow is listed under Washington County among Pennsylvania justices of the peace in commission on 1 September 1791. County records identify him as Samuel Glasgow, Esquire, of Hanover Township: commissioned 7 May 1788, previously a Peters Township wheelwright, and still a JP in the 1800 Hanover assessment. Glasgow-3175 (died 1801, Hanover Township) is the better candidate, but Glasgow-1134 (later of Hanover, Beaver County) has not been excluded, so the match stays possible.

Why this candidate?

Independent county records fix the office-holder's identity and locality. Crumrine's History of Washington County (1882) lists 'Hon. Samuel Glasgow, commissioned May 7, 1788' among county justices, and puts him first in the Hanover Township justices' list ('Samuel Glasgow, May 7, 1788'). The 1800 Hanover Township assessment, quoted by Crumrine, lists 'Samuel Glasgow, justice of the peace'. The county slave register, as transcribed by Afrolumens, records Samuel Glasgow of Peters Township, wheelwright, in 1782, 'Samule Glasgow Esquire of Hanover township' on 2 June 1792, and Hanover through the 1800 septennial census. Glasgow-3175 (Samuel, c.1740 Ulster – 1801 Hanover Township, Washington Coun
