Peter and Elizabeth's eldest known son, John Glasgow, was reportedly born on 7 June 1783 and baptised at Bathgate on 6 July 1783.<ref name="John1783"/>

He is probably the John Glasgow who later lived with Jean Bryce at Hume's Close, Canongate, Edinburgh, and worked as a shop porter.

Evidence supporting that identification includes:

* the age is within one year of the age recorded in 1841;

* Peter, John, Margaret, Elizabeth and William recur in both families;
