William Glasgow

Biography
William Glasgow was born on 11 February 1811 in County Tyrone, Ireland, a son of John Glasgow and Jane. The 1888 biography names seven children in John and Jane's family: Robert, Mary A., William, John B. Glasgow Jr., Bessie, James and Margaret. William was the third child. The same account says his parents were County Tyrone natives of Scottish parentage, while John Jr.'s sketch describes them as Scottish-born and says they moved to County Tyrone after marriage. William emigrated to the United States as a young man and lived at Auburn, New York, for about ten years. He married Eliza Glasgow, also born in County Tyrone, at Auburn on 4 August 1836. Although husband and wife shared the Glasgow surname, the biography describes them as members of different families. Eliza had emigrated with two brothers when she was about eighteen. 

In 1842 William, Eliza, their first child and William's brother John moved from Auburn to Fayette Township, Hillsdale County, Michigan. William and Eliza had four named children:

The 1888 sketches conflict on John and Jane's birthplaces and on whether the parents reached Hillsdale County in 1844 or 1848. Those discrepancies do not affect the independently consistent identification of William and John Jr. as their sons.

Eliza's two immigrant brothers remain unidentified. Robert Glasgow, born about 1809 in County Tyrone and later living in Cayuga County, is a plausible candidate for one brother, but no source presently proves the relationship.
