William Kerr

1792 – 5 September 1862

Stirling, Stirlingshire, Scotland

Current position

The earlier statement that William Kerr had no parents was incorrect. The live WikiTree profile attaches Alexander Kerr (Kerr-14420) and Christian (Child) Kerr (Child-2372) as his parents. William's 5 September 1862 Stirling death registration names his parents as Alex Kerr, borough officer, and Christina Child. His marriage to Ann Eadie in Stirling on 30 May 1819 and the 1851 Stirling census provide the expected identity continuity. Alexander and Christian are therefore the concrete parents of William, with the parent relationship supported directly by the death record and indirectly by the marriage/census identity trail.

Conclusion: Current conclusion

The ancestor view does not attach grandparents to either parent profile. The two lines are not genuinely parentless in the documentary sense, however: Alexander's baptism biography cites Robert Kerr and Jean Murray as parents, and Christian's baptism biography cites George Child as her father. These are research leads, not attached WikiTree relationships.

Actions: Recommended action

Retain Kerr-14420 and Child-2372 as William's parents. The death entry (NRS reference 490/238), supported by the 1819 marriage and 1851 census identity trail, is sufficient to correct the prior "no parents" conclusion. Do not add grandparents yet. Research Robert Kerr/Jean Murray and George Child separately using the cited baptisms, parish registers and FamilySearch Tree duplicate checks before proposing any new attachment.
