Hugh Glasgow

Biography
Hugh was a native of Ireland, the son of John Glasgow of Gortin, Derryloran, County Tyrone;
 
and the uncle of Thomas McNeice Glasgow, a mine manager of Thames, New Zealand.

Perhaps around the early 1830s, he moved to St. John, New Brunswick, or perhaps Nova Scotia -- his eldest son Hugh Adam was born at St. John in about 1835.

He passed away 30 November 1899 age 94, due to old age, and was buried at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

He was one of the oldest residents of Carleton, and had lived there for over 60 years. He left three sons: H. Adams (superintendent of Carleton ferry), Edwin, and Albert who was in business in Denver, CO; and two daughters Mrs M. Turner and Mrs. Anthony Atchison.

Research Notes
Some ancestry-com trees have a Hugh Glasgow d. 1900 age 65 at Carleton, as father of Margaret wife of Alonzo Calder. This would be at odds with the newspaper notice, so perhaps those profile have made mistakes.
Passenger list
There is a passenger list of the Amethyst arriving in Boston in 1843 from St. George, New Brunswick, carrying a group of four Glasgows: Francis (36), Hugh (35), Mary (19), and Ellen (18). They were said to be emigrating to the U.S. This could well be the same family?

His daughters Margaret and H. Adam both give New Brunswick as their birthplace on censuses, although perhaps we should not rule out that they were born in Ireland prior to emigration.
Wives and children
Elizabeth Black was given as the mother on his children Ada and Edwin's death registrations. But based on her age, she probably was not the mother of H. Adam and Margaret .

He could possibly be the father of Sarah (Glasgow) Kermode (abt.1826-1894) too ? Sarah Kermode named her parents as Hugh and Margaret, and appears to be from Gortin, Derryloran.

There are some confirmations of Glasgow children of Gortin in the Derryloran parish register, including William (b. abt. 1822), Sally (abt. 1827) and Margaret (abt. 1830). These may or may not be Hugh's children; see John Glasgow (bef.1771-) research notes for more detail.
