Jane (Little) Glasgow

Biography
Jane was born about 1828.
 
She was the daughter of George Little and lived at Craigs Oritor as of 1856.

On 15 April 1856 at 1st Cookstown Presbyterian, she married Benjamin Glasgow of Killycurragh, son of John Glasgow. Witnessed by John and George Potter.

As of 1868 they were living in Cookstown where Benjamin was a merchant.
 Birth registration of son William. 
However, Benjamin passed away in 1870.

As of 1901 and 1911 she lived in William St, Cookstown with her married but childless son John , who was the founder of the Mid-Ulster Mail.

Jane passed away 2 December 1924 in her 100th year, and is buried at Derryloran Old Cemetery with Benjamin.

OBITUARY.
MRS. B. GLASGOW, COOKSTOWN.
The death of Mrs. Glasgow, which took place on Tuesday night, removes one who was probably the oldest inhabitant of the town or immediate neighbourhood.
She had entered in her 100th year, being born in Craigs (Orritor) in September, 1825, and for sixty-eight years, since her marriage brought her into the town, she had resided in the same house. She was a woman of strong faith and practical piety, as unassuming in her manner as she was steadfast in her opinions.
Left a widow over half a century ago. with a small family, the youngest the late Rev. W. G. Glasgow who lredeaswd, being only a child of two years, she had a hard struggle. but her faith in the providential care of the Almighty for the widow and orphan never wavered, and was fully justified for friends were raised up who ministered to her necessities. Some thirty years ago she retired from the responsibility of business but up till the last year she continued to take an active part in it, and enjoyed meeting old customers. Blessed with a hardy constitution and a genial tomperament, her years were crowned with increasing content of body and mind, doing what she conceived to be her duty in her own small circle, and leaving behind memories of a long life well spent.
For the last twelve months or so she had been confined to bed through bodily weakness, but enjoyed her full mental faculties to the last, and passed peacefully away on Tuesday night.
The funeral took place on Thursday to the old burying-ground in Derryloran Churchyard and was largely attended b friends and acquaintances.

*B. G. L. Glasgow, B.A.L, and W. R. Bertram Glasgow, Belfast (grandsons)

*Thomas G. Smyth. J.P.; Samuel Fleming, Archibald Little. Robert W Bole, Thomas Warnock, Andrew Gibson (nephews)
*Allan Glasgow, John Glasgow, Wm. J. Glasgow. Silas Glasgow, James Greer. Frederick and John Greer; Moore Grahame.

Research Notes
No civil death registration in the name Jane Glasgow for this date, or anything resembling it. Also, there is nothing in the Mid-Ulster Mail which seems hard to believe given that her son was the founder.

Not sure if lost registration or what? Maybe the headstone date is wrong - Headstone is transcribed incorrectly as obituary found for 1924, but still can’t find the registration of her deathGreer-6831 07:48, 17 June 2024 (UTC) .

Another connection between Little and Glasgow shows up in the Australian immigration record of Sarah (Glasgow) Kermode (abt.1824-1894). She seems to be from Gortin, Derryloran, and a character witness was James Little of Gortreagh (there is a Gortreagh townland bordering Gortin).
