John Glasgow

Biography
John was born in 1862. He was the son of Benjamin Glasgow and Jane Little. 

He is mentioned in the Will of his uncle Henry who died in 1874.

In 1891 John Glasgow a merchant from Cookstown, father Benjamin, married Margaret Graham Anderson, of Portstewart, father Samuel, at Portstewart Presbyterian Church. The witnesses were William G. In 1901 Jane Glasgow 75, is living with her son John 38, a Newspaper Proprietor, Master Printer, and Stationer and Seedsman, and his wife Margaret Graham 33. Also living with the family are Robert White Bole, a shop assistant, and book, stationary and seeds, Nathaniel Henry, a shop apprentice, Albert Gilbert Nesbitt an apprentice printer and Bridget O’Donnell a domestic servant. http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Tyrone/Cookstown/William_St_/1729125/ 

He was educated at the Old Cookstown Academy and all his life was associated with the family business Glasgow's Ltd., booksellers and stationers of Cookstown. With his brother Henry, he established the Mid-Ulster Mail.

Margaret passed away in 1922; John remarried after this.

He passed away 7 April 1957 at his residence, Moneymore Rd, Cookstown, in his 95th year. He was the last surviving of the three sons of Benjamin Glasgow. He was chairman of the Mid-Ulster Printing Co., and a former chairman of the Tyrone County Council and of the Cookstown Urban Council. He was a public servant for 63 years in total; including time on the Cookstown Board of Guardians and a Cookstown Town Commissioner. He was also a presiding magistrate at Cookstown Petty Sessions; a Freemason, and a member of Molesworth Presbyterian Church.
