Biography
Robert Glasgow is reported among nine Old Bailey convicts receiving judgment of death, for highway robbery of Joseph Weedon’s gold ring, silver shoe buckles and other things. A conviction/sentence report. The Last Saturday trial reference has no saved report dateline; no exact trial date inferred. This is not proof of actual execution, death or family identity.[1]
Robert Glasgow, condemned for robbing Joseph Weedon on the highway, is included among Newgate prisoners ordered for execution on Monday next. Same named case as the 16 July sentence report, but a different reported action. John Young is the prisoner reprieved for life. This execution order does not establish that Robert was executed. Relative Yesterday and Monday next are not converted to issue-based dates.[2]
Research Notes
The two reports refer to the same named robbery case. No existing profile supplies an identity bridge. The 1754 master is kept as a separate documentary subject; the execution order does not prove Robert’s death.
Public catalogue/QMD comparison only; no direct original trial or execution record checked.
Glasgow-1132, 1143, 2425, 1445, 2867 and 550 remain weaker chronological possibilities. The Antrim farmer has competing household context, not an absolute exclusion.
An order for execution and an actual execution are distinct facts.
Glasgow-2474: Possible; age 35, no concrete chronology conflict. The newspaper’s later execution order is a serious unresolved continuity issue, but execution itself is not established. A Findmypast baptism transcript records him at Irvine. Public research findings associate the adult Robert Glasgow-3479 with Irvine family entries and report an Irvine Burgh Catalogue entry (4 Aug 1738) naming Robert Glasgow master of the Irvine ship Betty and Grizell; the profile merge preserves that caveat. Earlier records are prior research context, not newly inspected originals. Glasgow-2473: Chronologically possible (at least 48); no corroborating London evidence. Public source summary cites a Findmypast baptism transcript dated 7 Jan 1703 at Edinburgh; maintained vital preserves the before qualifier. Profile findings link the baptism to Edinburgh parents, but no relevant maritime or London criminal record was identified. Earlier records are prior research context, not newly inspected originals. Glasgow-3457: Chronologically possible, about 27; no direct record linkage. Public dossier has a FamilySearch baptism citation for David Glasgow in 1744 and unverified tree spouse/child links; no occupational finding for Robert. Earlier records are prior research context, not newly inspected originals.
Inspect the original Old Bailey proceedings, Newgate calendar and execution or reprieve record for identifiers and actual outcome before changing any death or relationship.

The Ordinary of Newgate's Account for the execution of 29 July 1751 (OA17510729) identifies the man: 'ROBERT GLASCOW, aged 28, was born at Chippen Ongar in Essex, and was bred a Butcher'. His father was 'a Man in good Circumstances' who had settled his other children. He later served on a guard-ship, a sloop of war and the Invincible man-of-war, and came up to London from Portsmouth about six months before the robbery. The same account lists him among the eight ordered for execution on 24 July and among those turned off at Tyburn on Monday 29 July 1751; the bodies were 'delivered to their Friends'. The trial t17510703-10 (verdict Guilty, Death) has alibi witnesses describing 'the prisoner and his wife'. Every prior candidate conflicts on birthplace and age. Glasgow-2474 was born 1716 at Irvine, Ayrshire (would be 35, not 28) and has a wife Mary Borland and a son born 1738. Glasgow-2473 was baptised 1703 in Edinburgh. Glasgow-3457 was born c.1724 in Ayrshire with a son David (1744); his age is close, but Ayrshire against Chipping Ongar is a direct place conflict. WikiTree searches for Robert Glasgow/Glascow/Glasco/Glascoe born 1715-30 return only Scottish and Irish men (2474, 1132, 2425, 3457). No English-born Robert exists, so a new profile is needed.
