Thomas is a genuine adult Donegal actor documented in a Raphoe-linked court case in 1684, at Lifford in 1689, in the Raphoe/Ballindrait-Shannon property network from 1692 to 1695, and as an Exchequer plaintiff on 15 May 1701. These records do not prove an Irish birth, exact age, spouse, children or relationship to Archibald of Ramelton, Nathaniel of Keady/Fintona, or the later Killybegs James.

Summary of the research

Overall conclusion

A newly inspected Betham abstract of Archibald Glasgow of Rathmalton, County Donegal, clerk, with will dated April 1673, explicitly names Thomas Glasgow as his eldest son. Identifying this son with the Lifford/Raphoe man is now strongly probable, superseding the former suggestion that their degree of relationship was wholly unknown. The son has no stated residence, age, wife or estate in the abstract, so that identity is still inferred. The live father field was uncertain (10) on 30 September 2026 and remains so pending a distinctive household, associate or estate bridge. Neither the Scottish identity of Archibald nor a Thomas-to-Nathaniel descent follows from this record.

The 1693 Ballindrait material also uses Glascow. Together with Archibald's Glasgow/Glascoe forms, the compatible chronology and Donegal geography support the father proposal; surname and proximity alone do not establish identity.

The three Dublin bill-book entries of 1684, 1692 and 1701 are a high-confidence identity match. The 1684 image supplies an exact Raphoe bridge; the 1692 image names his repeated associate Abraham Creighton; and the 1701 entry repeats the rare name and Esq. designation. Thomas was therefore alive after 15 May 1701, superseding the former after-25-November-1695 boundary.

The newly inspected PRONI catalogue transcription of a c.1700 Lifford estate paper supplies a more precise property history. Hugh Hamill sold Thomas Glascoe, Esq., a previously mortgaged part of the lordship for £3,216, with Abraham Creighton and John Hamilton as covenant sureties. Thomas later sued Creighton; creditors seized his property interest and Creighton purchased it. This is evidence of a specific purchase and debt history, not proof of an inherited Ramelton estate. No parent, wife or Archibald-household relative is named. The archival transcription was read; the manuscript image was not.

Searches that found nothing: Findmypast surname searches (variants on) keyed to Lifford, Clonleigh, Raphoe and Killybegs returned no Glasgow/Glasco/Glascow record of the 17th or early 18th century; Lifford and Killybegs produced only Glass entries, Clonleigh nothing. The three Dublin bill-book entries (1684, 1692, 1701) are already in the 2026 pre-1750 audit and in this file. A BNA search for "thomas glasgow" with "lifford" found nothing relevant.
Possible collateral, unproved: the Raphoe diocesan marriage licence bond index has Rebecca Glasco and Jas Dogherty, 1741 (IRE/DIOC/MAR186149). It is not in the earlier audit (which used the exact spelling Glasgow). It shows the Glasco spelling in Raphoe diocese a generation after Thomas; nothing links her to him.

1. Add the 1689 Lifford attainder-list occurrence and the 1692–1695
   Ballindrait/Shannon deed sequence.
2. Use **born before about 1671**. The exact birthplace is unknown; Lifford may
   remain only as an uncertain locality lead, not a certain County Donegal birth.
3. Describe him as a documented `Esq.` and legal/property actor, with a documented purchased Lifford interest. Distinguish that purchase
   from the roles and beneficial ownership left unstated in other deeds.
4. Preserve the existing uncertain Archibald father attachment while adding
   the new eldest-son evidence and its identity limit. Do not upgrade it or
   infer fatherhood of Nathaniel-1136 from the abstract.
5. Keep Thomas Glasgow-1103, the Scottish child baptised in 1612, separate from
   this Lifford man unless a cross-channel identity record is found.
6. The 1612 Scottish Thomas would have been about 72 in 1684 and 89 in 1701,
   making a direct match weak. Hypothetical descendants are not positive
   evidence for a competing pedigree; assess the newly named son on his own
   evidence.
7. Follow the newly inspected Betham MS 225 p. 90 with the registered will,
   PRONI deed recitals and Cairns/M'Auley collateral records for an identity
   bridge. Preserve surname variants in further searches.
8. Change the death boundary to **after 15 May 1701**, place unknown.

- **Searches that found nothing:** Findmypast surname searches (variants on) keyed to Lifford, Clonleigh, Raphoe and Killybegs returned no Glasgow/Glasco/Glascow record of the 17th or early 18th century; Lifford and Killybegs produced only Glass entries, Clonleigh nothing. The three Dublin bill-book entries (1684, 1692, 1701) are already in the 2026 pre-1750 audit and in this file. A BNA search for "thomas glasgow" with "lifford" found nothing relevant.
- **Possible collateral, unproved:** the Raphoe diocesan marriage licence bond index has **Rebecca Glasco** and **Jas Dogherty**, 1741 (`IRE/DIOC/MAR186149`).
