Parent-status audit, 27 September 2026: William and Margaret Herbesoun are both marked confident on WikiTree. Margaret's status was saved and checked against the live API on 27 September. Protocol 2916 directly calls her George's mother and liferenter, while companion protocol 2903 calls William his father.

Daughter assessment: Jonet Glasgow (estimated about 1607), later Stewart (Glasgow-3061) is confirmed by record. Her husband John Stewart's 1624 burgess admission calls her George's lawful daughter and describes George as a merchant, burgess and guild brother.

Daughter assessment: Margaret Glasgow (baptised 6 May 1610), later Stewart (Glasgow-1100) is confirmed by two records. Her baptism names George Glasgow and Margaret Steuart, and her husband James Stewart's 1633 burgess admission independently calls her George's lawful daughter.

Marriage assessment: George's 13 November 1598 contract with Margaret Stewart, daughter of citizen Alexander Stewart, is confirmed. The correct citation is protocol 3492, not protocol 3453.

Birth-date assessment: George's former 1575 date conflicts with his formal participation in the September 1586 sale with curators. Under the then Scots-law age divisions, a boy was a pupil under 14 and a minor acting with curators from 14 until majority at 21. George was therefore born after 1 September 1565 and by 1 September 1572. WikiTree uses about 1569, uncertain, as the midpoint estimate.

Robert Renwick, ed., Abstracts of Protocols of the Town Clerks of Glasgow, protocol 3586, 15 October 1599 (probably vol. 11, which holds protocol 3492 above; the copied text suggests about printed p. 138): Thomas Thomsone, cordiner, citizen, and Agnes Andro, spouses, sold to Henry Wilsone, merchant, a back tenement with hall, chamber and stable, on the west side of the street leading from the market cross to the South Nether Port, between the lands of the late John Craig on the east, "of George Glasgw on the west", of John Gilliane on the south and the common close on the north. Seen as OCR text of the printed abstract pasted into the owner's early notes; volume and page have not been rechecked.

The entry gives no description of George. Its attribution to this George is possible only, on the same name, burgh and date: eleven months earlier protocol 3492 names George Glasgw, dwelling in Glasgow, in his marriage contract. The owner filed the extract with notes on his daughter Margaret. Check the volume and page in Renwick, and look for George's own title to the land, before relying on it.
