Father assessment: John Glasgow (Glasgow-1093), born about 1510, Glasgow is confident. Protocol 847 directly calls William John's son. The profile identification is further secured by the repeated Mychael Lyndesay witness in 1564-65 and by John's record-proved son Stephen witnessing the 1586 entry of William's heir and then acting as that heir's curator. A complete search of the published Glasgow protocol series from William's first appearance through 1586 found no competing living adult William Glasgow.

Overall conclusion

Mother assessment, 27 September 2026: Jonet Spreull (Spreull-4) is now confident as an evidence-based inference, saved and read back on WikiTree. Protocol 1196 establishes her marriage to John by 31 December 1534; protocol 847 still calls her his spouse while John conveys land to his son William in 1565; protocol 2189 explicitly calls her mother of John's son Stephen in 1575. Stephen then witnessed William's son's inheritance and served as his curator in 1586. William's estimated birth fits the documented marriage, and no earlier wife or competing mother has been found. The 1565 instrument alone does not call Jonet William's mother; the grade rests on the combined family chronology and records, and would need revisiting if evidence of an earlier union emerged.

William's son George Glasgow (Glasgow-1099) now has both parents marked confident on WikiTree. Protocols 2903 and 2916 directly identify William as his father and Margaret Herbesoun as his mother; Margaret's parent status was saved and read back on 27 September 2026.

Birth-date assessment: William's live profile now uses about 1540. No record supplies an exact birth year. William was an instrumentary witness on 9 June 1564. The Scots-law minimum age of 14 for such a witness gives a defensible outer bound of born by 9 June 1550. He received property as John's son in 1565 and fathered George, who was aged about 14-20 in 1586 and was therefore born between late 1565 and September 1572. Taken together, about 1540, with a reasonable range of roughly 1535-1550, is a better working estimate than 1525. It fits an adult witness/property recipient in 1564-65 and fatherhood in the following decade without pretending that an exact birth year has been found.
